How nice to see it without some idiotic modern commentary/voice-over by someone who thinks that we are too stupid to know what is going on unless they tell us !!!

Ma’s op will probably not be today now; 2 other urgent cases have come in so it might now be tomorrow. I am lucky that, at 91, she’s still as sharp as knife, and I blame daily Crosswords. If I’m not there when they talk to her, she understands EXACTLY what she’s been told and I usually have no questions. She told me not to come in today becoz it’s wet ! 🙄

You’ll be like the man in his 80s in Hamilton who lived in a retirement village. One day he mentioned to a couple of staff members that he’d be going to visit his mother the next day. They were sorry that poor Mr X, whose mind was a good as ever, was showing signs of delusion…visiting his mother ??? But he really was, Mum was what the Waikato Times called a centurion and was living in a rest home nearby.

Nurse Amy, from North China “up near North Korea” (it’s like the UN in Welly Hospital) just rang. Ma is going in to theatre right now. Recovery Nurse will ring and tell me when to come in later.

It’s like the UN in Hamilton Hospital, too.

It’s good that she’s going to have it done, being in hospital can be very boring indeed, she said ungratefully.

We’ve just had a thumping earthquake in Welly in 2 waves with rumbling that went on for quite a while. Dunno where the epicentre was or who else felt it. Hope ma’s ok.

We had a terrible shake, my banana cake with organic almond icing shattered on the floor. Seven dollars down the drain..and not a crumb in my stomach.

When people say mother nature is a bitch, they aren’t joking.

              Strong earthquake
              Tue Oct 30 2018 3:13 PM
              Magnitude: 6.7
              Depth: 193 km
              35 km south-west of Taumarunui

Man, if we felt that down here they must’ve got a real bang in Taumaranui & even at that depth that one will be widely felt! Some details might change as more reports come in.

The last time I was there, it put on a little one just to make me feel at home. It was a very small one, nothing to worry about.

Two rolling waves would be most unnerving, no doubt it will be on the news if it did any damage (I hope that it didn’t) I imagine that most of us have taken them much more seriously since Christchurch. I am so used to them that they never worried me much before that; if one went on, I’d stand under a doorframe, but never with any real fear.

I would never buy a pedestal table again; it’s a sod to get under because of the ‘feet’ and I wouldn’t trust it not to topple over. I tried it once and was shocked that it was so hard to get right under !!!

I blame the parents; they don’t seem to place any value on discipline these days.

We had the quake here, but not severely. I did wonder. It felt like a really heavy vehicle going past,

Assisting Surgeon Kirsten just rang, from theatre: Ma’s operation went very well, but it will not be a short stay. She may be in hospital for up to two weeks. Various Welly rellies and a close niece and nephew here have been getting text updates from me through out the day, and they all want to share the visiting load. She will be out of it and needing monitoring for a while. I can go up there in two hours 🙂

Don’t let them all visit, it’s very tiring for the person who’s had the op.

It’s ok Kitty. She’s 91. There aren’t a lot of them left to visit her & the odds they’ll all turn up at the same time aren’t high ! I can take it from here 🙂

Recovery Room Nurse Tom rang at 7.20 pm and said she’s doing well, ok to go to the ward now. They’re coming to collect her. She says don’t come in tonite, tomorrow will be fine. I said thanks very much Tom and you tell her I’m coming in now. 🙂

She’s sleepy, a bit sore, but mentally sharp. I’ve got small 3 jobs to do for her tomorrow morning, and she sent me home at 9.15 pm because she worries about me !! So I didn’t argue.
