Eight and a half week old fraidy cat Alex finally puts in an appearance (sort of) over the fence.

Despite my worries my pukekos and their babies would be in for a rough nite from Guy Fawkes fireworks, the area was actually pretty restrained and those few fireworks I could hear or see being let off were some distance away. Didn’t hear any shrieks of alarm from the stream so the triplets probably had a quiet night. No sign of the triplets at all yesterday. Hoping they’re all just sequestered away somewhere, keeping quiet.

Fido slept like a baby through even some really loud ones. My training him not to mind thunder must have extended to fireworks (hooray) He used to bark like mad at them.

Roll on public displays only, though.

The Dopey Dog of the Year must go to Jackson the pitbull x who was lying on the warm pavement, having a siesta. I inconsiderately came along and woke him up by greeting him. He heaved a great sigh (‘what a nuisance !’), got up and squeezed back into the section so that he could bark through the fence.

Really, some humans have no consideration at all.

No sign of the triplets today either. Both Bluey and Sweety have spent considerable amounts of time doing their mahi around the area just over my fence, accompanied by Alex in that gif above. They are feeding him constantly. It is extremely unlikely both of the adults would leave small chicks on their own, however well hidden. They don’t grieve so if something has happened to those little pooklets it wouldn’t be evident from their behaviour. I strongly suspect none of them are alive.
