‘Mainstream press’ warned off hijacking discussion around Pride Parade

It is becoming common for people to assert that particular groups or demographics should keep out of discussions. It is odd for the ‘mainstream media’ be warned off getting involved in discussions – especially when the person doing the warning uses a mainstream media column to discuss things.

Informed and well informed can be different things.

Especially so if discussions are ring fenced so only some views are allowed.

It is ironic that ‘the LGBTQ+ community’ want to be seen as normal members of an inclusive society but want to exclude others from discussions.

I also find a clash between wanting to normalise various sexual and social types, but having things like Pride Parades that shout and flaunt particular behaviours.

LGBTQ+ will have successfully integrated with society when they don’t stand out as different.

Also in the news last night (and over the last few months):

The Spinoff (4 July): I’m pregnant and I’m going to be a dad

Stuff (14 November): Pregnant Kiwi dad-to-be getting ready to welcome first child around Christmas

1 news (22 November): Watch: The remarkable journey to parenthood of a Dunedin dad expecting to give birth

I really wonder whether this sort of self publicity is a good thing for those who want to be seen as normal members of society. Perhaps it shows others that being different is ok and ‘normal’, but it risks being seen as ‘Look at me, I’m different!” – a bit like the Pride Parade.

And a wee point on inclusiveness, shouldn’t it be LGBTQMW+ ?

The silly bitch is assuming that all reporters are straight, which is highly unlikely.

She also sees nothing odd in writing about straight people.

Its a strange world we live in. Do we really need a parade for what 90% of people couldnt care less about, its 2018 not 1918 we have all moved on.
Enough of the bloody CIS reference its bloody stupid you are either a man or a woman and there are a miniscule number of intersex. Its biology. Dress how you like, act how you like, identify how you like but when all is said and done there are 2 sex,s.

Exactly, Dave. These people know they aren’t the norm..and never will be. So they they start hollering they are, and want to be, the norm. And the more they protest the more abnormal they become.

Its not a matter of this fiasco being hijacked by MSM…it’s matter of everyone else seeing the bullshite for what it is.

These clowns ordering the police out of the parade have really dropped a clanger. Even 1ewes is criticising them. And the noddies concerned are still clashing the cymbals.

Folk in NZ are generally a pretty tolerant lot these days. Lots of people have turned to these pride parades to watch a bunch of gay and lesbian exhibitionists dress up like freaks and show ponies and dance along showing off their tits and bums to each other and everyone else who wants to have a gawk and a giggle – and it’s all been very good-natured & laid back & something of an institution – and now this tiny coterie of CIS gender-haters has gone and screwed it all up.

They’ve done more to make people resent intersexuals and those with unusual sexual proclivities than anyone I can think of. Up until they came along sounding off, nobody really cared any more. It’s just not been a big thing for most people. As long as they’re not shoving themselves and their doings in your faces live and let live seems to be the norm.

It is only a small number of extremist who have usurped the parade organization .
Hopefully the parade collapses and a new one with a sane organization replaces it.
It is sad that what was a spectacle enjoyed by many has been screwed up by a few nutters.

It’s a real shame that it’s been hijacked by a narrow-minded minority like the woman who doesn’t want police there because they are well known for brutality to anyone Maori…er, there are a lot of Maori police officers, something that seems to have escaped her notice. It was a gross insult to the police and was totally irrelevant to the GLBT parade.

Why not pronounce it like Gilbert ?

She also seems to think that people are fascinated by her being lesbian, which they probably aren’t. It’s not that interesting to hear that a stranger is gay.

LGBTQI became LGBTQUI just for me recently. That’s because I finally came out regarding my Unusual-ness. How did I come to my brave acknowledgement that I am an Unusual? By having my freedom of speech stripped away. Unusual – how special I am. I hope everybody can accept me. Perhaps I’ll start insisting, getting louder, cocooned between the Q and the I. Just now it feels more like being smothered.

Good post on Kiwiblog regarding the small anti-police/prison group that started this whole mess – what a total bunch of nutters.

The New Zealand Police’s latest publicity stunt, in which it has slapped a rainbow on a police car to “celebrate” diversity, is a slap in the face to every marginalised person who has ever been mistreated by the cops. As the comments in the cops’ patronising #WeCareEnough hashtag show, our community is insulted that the NZ Police believes we will mistake a coat of paint for any kind of real progress towards ending police brutality, racism, and violence.

We can’t help but be reminded of last year’s eye-wateringly insensitive stunt for Māori Language Week, in which “pirihimana” was written on the side of police cars along with a koru pattern. Police officers got to pat themselves on the back for celebrating Te Reo Māori while continuing to do their job of tearing apart Māori communities.

For the young Māori racially profiled by the police every day, picked from the streets of their papakāinga and dragged through a racist and colonial criminal justice system, a temporary paintjob on one police car means less than nothing. The families of the people killed every year by police in reckless, unnecessary car chases wouldn’t sleep easier knowing that it was a rainbow car which killed them. When a jackboot is ground into your neck, as we see almost routinely on Aotearoa’s streets, no amount of rhinestones will distract from the injustice.

At every proud moment in our history when brave people have stood up against evil, the cops were right there, standing with that evil. It was the cops who burned and destroyed Parihaka. It was the cops who dragged Pacific Islanders from their homes at dawn. It was the cops who took to the streets in defence of South African apartheid. Every bone was broken and every drop of blood was spilled, not because there weren’t enough rainbows on their cars, but because violence is the basic function of the Police.

We are not enemies of the Police because of appearances or because of symbolism. We are enemies of the Police because the Police are enemies of the people.

The Police can keep their rainbow cars and their carefully massaged PR. #WeCareEnough to be out here doing the real work to protect and strengthen Aotearoa’s LGBTQ community. We are among those beginning the hard work of healing the damage inflicted every day by the Police. If you care enough too, please join us.

Lizzie likes to stir up controversy because otherwise she’d be ignored. Unfortunately for her, the kind of vacuous controversies she likes to stir up these days – like sticking her nose into this snowballing balls-up by a fringe group of cop-hating activists – are probably going to end up seeing her ignored or at best just constrantly derided. She’s already past her use-by date. Sooner or later she is going to have to find a real job.

Fran Sullivan handed Marvelly her arse back to her in the proverbial sling.

Marvelly has family money, too much time on her hands, a failed music career, and can’t pull a bloke, so has resorted to batting enthusiastically for the other side.

It’s Marvelly who is the CIS:
