This post is open to anyone to comment on any topic that isn’t spam, illegal or offensive. All Your NZ posts are open but this one is for you to raise topics that interest you.

If providing opinions on or summaries of other information also provide a link to that information. Bloggers are welcome to summarise and link to their posts.

Comments worth more exposure may be repeated as posts.Comments from other forums can be repeated here, cut and paste is fine.

Your NZ is a mostly political and social issues blog but not limited to that, and views from anywhere on the political spectrum are welcome. Some ground rules:

  • If possible support arguments, news, points or opinions with links to sources and facts.
  • Please don’t post anything illegal, potentially defamatory or abusive.

FIRST TIME COMMENTERS: Due to abuse by a few, first comments under any ID will park in moderation until released (as soon as possible but it can sometimes take a while).

Sometimes comments will go into moderation or spam automatically due to mistyped ID, too many links (>4), or trigger text or other at risk criteria.

Free speech is an important principle here but some people who might pose a risk to the site may be limited.

Interesting piece from Stuff, happens occasionally, about the rather absurd situation of Kiwibuild in Wanaka, Twyford agreed to buy houses that were already being built to sell onto folk at the same price the developer was doing which seems nonsensical and a bit desperate.
Anyway it didnt work, quelle suprise, because it was a dumb idea but it is another illustration of governments of all stripes failing to deal with the real reason for our crazy house prices. Christchurch is now coming to the end of yet another year of flat house prices with no housing shortage and flat to falling rents because of all the land freed up and the infrastructure put in place to sustainably pipeline future supply of residential land.
Twyford and Jones have buckets of cash the ability to change the RMA and compel councils to supply new land and build the infrastructure to service it. Its hard technical work and will annoy NIMBY,s but its a more sustainable path than buying houses that were already being built, putting a Kiwibuild sticker on them and selling them to people who can already afford to buy them.

What’s the POINT of doing that with the houses?

There are affordable houses in Ak, I have had a look at that section of the Herald. The average price in some places is c.$300,000 !!! Then there are the apartments, I saw a charming 1 bedroom one with furniture thrown in, small but designed to make good use of the space, well under $300,000.

Our Chief Censor is keen to drum up business:

From his previous interventions I inferred he is a zealot.

Teenagers have always found access to the kind of porn that was available, all that’s changed is the technology.

I dislike the way that people say that the teenagers ‘have been exposed to it’, as if they have done nothing to seek it out, which they obviously have, just as they sneaked looks at rude books in the past. Good luck to anyone stooging through Lady Chatterley’s Lover to find the dirty bits. It’s neither good literature nor good porn, as someone said.

Nobody sees porn online by chance, I would bet.

  3. An interesting old truck crash in the Cromwell Gorge. I don’t know how the bonnet popped open but it saved a head over tail roll.
