Maggie Barry bullying accusations continue

An ex-employee of Maggie Barry is continuing his campaign against Barry.

I must admit I am struggling to not be turned off by all of this, but there are I guess some important issues being raised, like:

  • bullying by MPs
  • accusations of bullying being prosecuted by media
  • ex-staff going public
  • what actually constitutes workplace or MP office bullying

RNZ are giving all this quite an airing this morning with an interview of the ex-staffer who claims to have been bullied, but also a statement from another staffer who has quite a different experience.

Starting to wonder if this has a slightly sinister motive.
The employer has investigated these claims and cleared the MP.
But still we have the aggrieved releasing recordings which they claim are not secret but etc etc.
On the other hand we have a Minister in trouble who is also a bully.
And on that not a whisper.

Has a redacted copy of that report to Jacinda ever been released? I seem to recall it was claimed by Jacinda to be bit inconclusive, with Meka denying it & all the Maori MPs backing her, but Jacinda strongly felt that there was enuf evidence there that Meka had angrily person-handled a staff member so gave her the elbow for now & is sending her on anger management training or similar?

Certainly wouldn’t fancy working for Maggie Barry myself. Something about her I just can’t stand. Robert, do you know who this disgruntled ex-employee is working for now? Seems possible to me it could be The Greens, or Labour, or NZF.

Anyone who thinks that being an MP is being at the trough is totally ignorant of what they do and the hours they put in. If you divide their pay by the hours, it’s not that great. I only know one who was earning less before she became an MP.

Call my cynical… but the timing of this makes me a little sceptical. Speaker calls for an inquiry into Parliament bullying and suddenly there is a National MP accused of bullying. Labour had a bullying MP earlier in the year, which seems to have been forgotten, but that was quickly closed down. Now Ms Barry is under attack.

One might think that this was a distraction cooked up the ruling coalition to take the heat off their numerous stuff-ups including the Sroubek debacle, Kiwibuild fiasco, poor polling result and looming Capital Gains Tax. But I could be wrong?

I did think Judith.., BUT her support is still one point below Bridges (7%)

They need to seriously look at others, like Maggie & maybe Mr Bakshi 😀

Isn’t the Right’s mantra about ‘I want more, more & MORE’ & then keep demanding EVEN MORE ?
sounds just like Ms Barry 😀

No; I think it is ‘more & more.. to share more evenly.. amongst the majority’ As opposed to ‘more & more for the greedy/smug few’

Like how the coalition govt gave winter warming payments to mega-rich oldies and to well-off students with rich parents? Your use of the childish ‘pantzi’ shows the only thing you have to offer to this blog is confirmation on a daily basis of what a unthinking moron you are.

Maggie Barry’s biggest mistake seems to have been in employing a oversensitive snowflake, a male who feels their ‘sexuality’ was an issue for Barry amongst millions of other things, who after losing an employment dispute against Barry is now going the back route through the MSM to get back at her.

Some of the stuff being complained about is totally pathetic. The guy is an obvious liar as well considering he now reckons he was given permission by Barry to record her (swearing and all) even though Barry and another of her staff says that was never an instruction.

No wonder his official complaint was thrown out and Barry cleared.

There have been a number of reports which have mentioned more than one employee having issues working there. Automatically of course ‘the guy’ is an obvious liar and an oversensitive snowflake. You’ve come to those conclusions from the media coverage which has arrived at you. They could include crafted press releases from Barry or interviews like the one on:
      https://www.radionz.co.nz/news/political/377515/maggie-barry-bullying-claims-ex-staffer-speaks-out

There are likely some who’ve come across the same coverage, and possibly even more, who’ve come to other conclusions as adamant as yours. Like Maggie Barry is an obvious liar and a real bitch to people who work with and for her.

As usual you avoid mentioning known facts that don’t back your world view like Barry has been cleared in two separate Parliamentary Service investigations regarding her conduct (that suggest she isn’t the one lying) and the fact the main complainer (the male as he seems to be the one pushing this story to the MSM) has no support in the very unlikely claim that Barry wanted staff to record her (swearing and all) and therefore he had permission to do so. I note he only veered away from the story that he made the recordings in secret when Barry said she would take that particular issue further. Up until that point all articles referring to the recordings said they were made secretly.

On the other side of the coin nothing released to date suggests anything the ex-staffer is complaining about except perhaps a suggestion some paid National party work was being done by staffers, but if we go down that line I’d suggest every MP in parliament would be guilty of the same to differing degrees.

Ms Barry insisted that she has been cleared of bullying claims made by former staff.

She conceded there were issues raised by former staff, but they were resolved “by mutual agreement” and “there was no finding that bullying or harassment had occurred”.

You can take it that it is all about a snowflake employee. You will believe to the letter the Barry comments. Inferring what you want from her statement doesn’t mean you know the detail which led to a concluding agreement. Like the closure omitting to specify bullying or harassment.

In the world you work in you might appreciate there are ‘ways things are done’ and ways things are presented in written form to end an episode.

Having said that you might condemn my perspective as fanciful. Just as the numerous people who have commented on Barry’s ways might determine that your blanket ‘Maggie Barry is no bully, harasser or bullshitter’ is fanciful.

      Where ? An MP.

I think that anyone who gets his knickers in a twist about being described as looking like the Great Gatsby must be a very delicate wee blossom.

I am also very dubious about these illicit recordings.

On my post above – where I wrote “employing a oversensitive snowflake”.

Yes – on one hand the snowflake (“It was terrifying at times”) is saying Barry gave him permission to record her and on the other he is saying he made recordings because he had to “document interactions” with her after making a parliamentary complaint. Having a bet each way there.

I would say so. Poor wee petal.

Yes, to keeping a record, no to secret recordings…it sounds as if these were that, I think.

One would have to know how the remarks about the Great Gatsby and the 70s moustache were made; were they teasing or insulting ?

“A former staffer of Maggie Barry has laid a complaint with the Auditor General over allegations the embattled National MP forced parliamentary staff to carry out party political work.

That would be a misuse of parliamentary funding, which is funded by the taxpayer. A spokesman for the Office of the Auditor General has confirmed concerns had been raised and it was considering the complaint, but it had not yet launched any investigation. ”
