    Tracy Watkins:

Does it matter if Bridges isn’t popular?
Yes of course. Politics is a popularity contest, after all.
It’s not just about being liked. Trust is what sells a party’s policies.

When Andrew Little talked about Labour’s welfare policy, voters heard “hand-out”. When Ardern talked about the same thing, voters heard empathy and the language of a caring society.

While polls are thin on the ground these days, Bridges seems to be rating even worse than Little, Phil Goff or David Shearer did – presumably all useful benchmarks for judging the right time to mount a leadership coup.

Key nailed it. Ardern nailed it. Bridges is running out of time to nail it.

I always thought Tracy seemed besotted with John Key. Never forget the intimate little cafe interview she did with him where she took her specs off and even batted her eyelids.

Can anyone recall her doing articles like this looking to help topple Labour’s string of failures?

People are not stupid; it’s obvious that JA is all talk and little do and that she is clueless about her ministers.

So long as the party is polling well the Nats won’t be too worried. They just need to keep fraying Ardern’s nerves and wait for the cockups to emerge.

As I said last night. I’ll be glad to get Neve’s First Christmas out of the way and find out who the new National leader is. I just can’t find anyone who can picture Simon giving a speech as PM at the UN, or at a press conference in any English-speaking country anywhere overseas, and not wince & start shuddering immediately.

I’ve never listened to him but he seemed to annoy Lurch satisfactorily, B.

To be fair most of the tv reporters on 1ewes seem to be young women & on the whole they get a lot more gooey-eyed about this sort of thing than blokes when the PM’s “One of us”.

I watch 3 because the sport is quite a bit shorter than 1ewes’s sport.

Male PMs don’t use their babies in this way – look at me, I can have and do it all AND make it possible for YOU to do the same. As if she could stop people doing it.

I have a confession to make, and I would prefer to make it while Corks is MIA and possibly on a mission travelling incognito somewhere in the world.

I now quite like Mike Hosking.

Further details will only be provided on request, to people who over 37 years of age.

He listens to him far more than I do. Methinks sometimes he doth protest too much. 😉

More bad news for Lurch. Leighton Smith is going to have a regular column and podcast on the Herald.
