Ot was pelting down here at Pookden Manor yesterday afternoon & last night. The Eel Spot was submerged in a raging, muddy torrent. Seems to have survived ok tho. The rain’s stopped since 5am & the stream’s subsiding already, although if I feed any of my eel friends they’ll have to have their tail engines on full power to hover in place.

The lawns n weeds will shoot up as soon as the sun comes out. There’s cold southerly blowing, though. I blame Tim Shadbolt for that.

Wow – what a buzz! Went down to the Eel Spot at 10.30am & even though the stream’s still running strong & high & it’s too murky to see the bottom yet I chummed the water briefly & within two minutes I could see Elvira Longfin splashing & powering up through the rapids.

And then as I watched for her to appear in the calmer water, I saw another massive eel splashing & bashing its way up thru the rapids behind her. It was Big Ella, with her port-upper-side beauty spot.

I ended up feeding two really big girl eels, swimming strongly but gracefully, to keep position at the eel spot, both together, & sometimes even side by side, at the same time.

I haven’t seen Ella for months. Really nice to see her again. And good that these two don’t seem to fight. She was possibly watching Elvira swimming almost vertically in the water, with her head out, mouth open, begging, & thinking “What’s she doing?”.

If Ella is visiting for a while I’ll train her to do the same thing. 😎

I love sparrers; cheeky little survivors. A friend has seen one, or perhaps more than one, opening the automatic doors at a supermarket by flying at the exact right height.

It peed down last night and there was a lot of thunder which Fido ignored. The stream down the road was very high and fast, and I couldn’t have seen anything in it. There were 8 dux on the verge.

Yes, I went through the gate to the edge of the top of my bank to see if the Eel Spot was submerged, and I disturbed a drake and hen who had been sheltering at the bottom, just above it. I felt guilty, they waddled quickly along until the poor things were standing in the water. So I left so they could waddle back up onto dry land. I always feel sorry for poor dux and pooks when they’re standing there looking wet in the rain & I have to remind myself it’s not a problem, really – they’re waterproof!

You’ve done well desensitising the dog to thunder. Give your dog a pat on the back and rub your tummy. 👍

If anyone wants to do it, just make the first clap the signal for a special play time. Keep talking, it doesn’t matter what, of course; I just said things like ‘Who’s scared of thunder ? WE’RE not..no…let’s play with Purple (a rope toy)…there he goes…’ anything just to keep it up. I would never have believed that he’d end up sleeping through it, and the lot we had on Wednesday night was very loud.

I do wish that I could tell the mother of the poodles who gave me the idea when I read the Quake Dogs book.

Sorry Zed but I totally hate this song. Can’t see why any one would like it. I don’t like the Pogues mainly because they can’t sing for nuts. But you enjoy any way
