I spy with my little eye. Spying in NZ? Sounds exciting. The CIA and the USA have nothing on us. Seriously (ha ha) We really do need a good old spy scandal to jolly up the tame issues doing the rounds at the minute. Santa goes missing over Lord Howe Island 🙂

A quirky item but one that delivers three points, Mural must go:

There are 2 murals at the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools in Koreatown, which is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District:

There’s this one, by Beau Stanton, which is attacked because the rays emanating from the head remind some people of the Japanese imperial battle flag, and which the L.A. school district plans to paint over.

And this one, by Shepard Fairey (who’s famous for those Obama “Hope” posters) which depicts Robert F. Kennedy.

Now, Shepard Fairey is using “the only leverage I have” and saying that if Stanton’s mural is painted over, he demands that his own RFK mural be painted over.

You can check the embedded link to the Stanton poster. It’s apparently of actress Ava Gardner. The three points:
“some people” is always code for a tiny fringe group of nutters who make a lot of noise on strange shit they’re obsessed about, usually involving “symbols”.

    – They gain advantage not because of any inherent power of argument or numbers but because they face school “administrators” who are clueless, spineless and wish only for the quiet life.

    – It’s important to puch back, as Fairey is doing, because “activists” exist only to extend their own power: give in on one issue and they’ll simply be back tomorrow with a new one. They’re exactly like abusers.

Yesterday someone commented that the Dailyblog’s awards for the year were published. I looked and went back today for Part 2. I found the ‘Heteronormative Patriarchy’ bit interesting. Now when I see the person who sent the text I’ll see them in a different light.
