Correction; GrinchES 😀 Three of the sad sacks.

        Poor miserable buggers.

What a cleverly designed nest; it would be easy to miss it, which is obviously the point.

I’ve just glimpsed the pooklet ! Well, one anyway. Came back from ma’s and looked over the fence and it was briefly out in the open. It ran into cover as soon as it saw me and Sweety then walked down and led it away under cover to the nest. I didn’t have time to get it on video. All three of them are feeding it. I think it might be a girl.

Oh, how lovely ! I’d love to have seen that. I’ve seen nests in the ash tree with mums admiring each other’s offspring.

Young Alex has really grown up & stepped up to the mark. Remarkable transformation. All in the space of one week he has learned to fly and is has now taken on big brother responsibilities. He is now spending nearly all day looking after his new little sibling, with the adults. He’s taking food to it; telling it quietly to stay hidden, and popping his head up from the foliage, watching me, before ducking back down to make sure I can’t see him feeding it. He’s much quieter – except when he’s actually asking for some food for it.

They go off and catch moths and insects and pull up grasses for it too.

The only thing letting Alex down a bit is that he’s been looking a bit bedraggled. His blue plumage at the front has been looking very untidy, with black feathers poking out of it, over the last few days.

So it was good to see him today, taking a break when the pooklet went back to the hidden nest, to see him spending a bit of time down by the water’s edge, having a groom and hopefully smartening himself up a bit.

I’m pretty sure there’s more than one pooklet. At one point Sweety was taking bread chunks in a different direction, and making the “come here, pooklet” feeding noise in the bushes in a different location, well away from where Alex was feeding his baby sibling not too far below me.
