    So Peter Dunne whined about being caught in traffic on the Kapiti coast,though Dunne you could have grovelled to Sir Key when you were his lap dog to double lane it at least 7 years ago.as an aside DONT drive at 104 kmh in the long traffic jams as you will get a ticket.concentrate as crawling at 5kmh can be fatal

  2. The implications here for NZ are obvious. Ardern and her henchmen are every bit as determined to stamp out free speech and right wing activism. This is what Trudeau has done. It’s frightening, but given Labour’s propensity to and history of meddling to amend pesky electoral laws to favour them it’s not far away here. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1078225904361500672?s=21

      @ traveller right wing activist are every bit as good if not better at amending pesky electoral laws to their benefit. In the US the Republicans are notorious for their gerrymandering of congressional districts to minimize the number of districts the Democrats can win.

      By pesky electoral laws i guess you refer to the proposed change to the threshold

      The Commission presented its final report to the Minister of Justice on 29 October 2012 with the following recommendations:

      The one electorate seat threshold should be abolished (and if it is, the provision for overhang seats should also be abolished);
      The party vote threshold should be lowered from 5% to 4% (with the Commission required by law to review how the 4% threshold is working);
      Consideration be given to fixing the ratio of electorate seats to list seats at 60:40 to address concerns about declining proportionality and diversity of representation;
      Political parties should continue to have responsibility for selecting and ranking candidates on their party lists but they must make a statutory declaration that they have done so in accordance with their party rules;
      MPs should continue to be allowed to be dual candidates and list MPs to stand in by-elections.

      Well I never from 2012..
      Either 1 The electoral commission is a partisan mouthpiece for labour and NZ first.
      Or 2 National ignored the advice because they did not want to have laws that made it harder for their no mates party to get elected.
      The time line strongly suggests 2 is the right answer….

        Plus some of the electorates here are gerrymandered to wander all over the countryside.
        Rotorua seat doesnt include other central island towns like Kawerau or Tokoroa but does include the place that is an offshoot of Tauranga now , Te Puke
        You would be surprised how many seats now come up to the outskirts of Hamilton, including Taupo seat which includes Cambridge, Taranaki is divided up into 3 , including the obvious of New Plymouth seat
        King Country seat comes right up to the suburbs of Stratford and New Plymouth and then goes to the suburbs of Hamilton.
        Places that are the normal hinterland of provincial cities like Wanganui are hived off to Rangiteiki , which stretches from Shannon , outside the kapiti Coast to Taumaranui .

        Yes national party does use the GOPs software from USA , called ‘Red State’ which is used like the US to get an advantage.

        With the growth of population, the minimum threshold shouldnt be a fixed number ( 4% now would still be more votes than than the 5% of 1996 when they had first MMP election), but some other multiple like the 4x smallest seats etc

      In the case of the small number who are quoted in the first case, they don’t seem to be expressing any wish to come here, so that’s not an issue.

      As for the second; one is far too small a sample to prove anything. If this was the only cop killing in the US, it would still prove nothing.

      Would you feel that Indonesia was justified in banning all Kiwis and Australians because a tiny number smuggle drugs in ?

      There have been murders committed by Kiwis abroad, but we don’t expect to have all of us banned because of this.

         /  December 28, 2018

        I would feel Indonesia was entitled to ban illegal immigrants.

        • Kitty Catkin

          People going on holiday are not immigrants.

          • Alan Wilkinson

             /  December 28, 2018

            The one who killed the cop was. Do you think the US should ignore that?

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  December 28, 2018

              Perhaps not, but the ones caught in Indonesia are.

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  December 28, 2018

              Which was he ? On holiday or an illegal immigrant ?

            • Alan Wilkinson

               /  December 28, 2018

              That seems to be your confusion but not mine.

              The point of course is that wanting to bar illegal immigrants is entirely different from wanting to bar tourists. The latter requires justification that the former doesn’t.

        ”In the case of the small number who are quoted in the first case, they don’t seem to be expressing any wish to come here, so that’s not an issue.”

        There is potentially 60,000 such people already in New Zealand. The scary part is you and I have no idea who among them hold such radical views.

        ‘Would you feel that Indonesia was justified in banning all Kiwis and Australians because a tiny number smuggle drugs in ?”

        No..but then drug smuggling isn’t a philosophical/religious view on life that demands strict adherence to accepted tenets. Indonesians know the number of Kiwis involved in drug smuggling is infinitesimal. That is a fact..and easily discernible. We aren’t so lucky with our Muslim population. No one honestly knows what they are thinking.

          Change the record, the needle’s stuck on that one. Well and truly stuck. It’s like a tape on a loop. We all know your bigoted views, no need to repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat……..

            I was answering your stuck record. Hard to fathom you not seeing the contradiction of your reply. Perhaps you were in a rush to troll and belittle?

            Can you please point out my bigoted views…and where my logic is flawed.

            And can you please explain how you know what Muslims are thinking.

              I haven’t claimed to know what millions of people are thinking, as you must know unless you are even sillier than you appear to be.

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  December 28, 2018

              It was really nice not having your tiresome personal abuse and trolling, not to mention ignorant bigotry for a time. It’s a shame that it didn’t last.

              If you have to ask the questions about how your views are bigotry, you wouldn’t understand the answer and I really can’t be bothered to try to make you see reason.Bigots never think that they are bigots, and I think that the chance of making you see why your ignorant views are bigotry are non-existent.

              Anyone who believes the Voice of Europe will believe anything. Now, run away and troll someone else.There must be someone out there who hasn’t been trolled by you.

              I don’t suppose that anyone is stupid enough to believe that the Muslim cleric said that in the words and sense attributed to him. He was talking about celebrating Christmas and appearing to believe in it, and that was all. He qualified it by saying that he did not wish ill to Christians, but was saddened when Muslims went along with what is to them a false religion and a false festival.

              Many Jews feel and say the same. To an observant Jew, celebrating the birth of Jesus is anathema, as the Messiah has not yet appeared, just as it is anathema to a Christian to say that he hasn’t. To many Christians, blasphemy is also the worst sin of all. It’s worse than all the other sins put together, and blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the Unforgivable Sin.

              Stop arguing bs. Yes, indirectly you have claimed to know what millions are thinking. You have no problem with many of them coming into our country…therefore you must know their intent. I wasn’t asking you to divine what millions are thinking..just the 60 thousand in New Zealand.

              Please answer the questions I posed to you. That way I know you aren’t being a vindictive shrill..and are really interested in debating.

              The questions again:

              Can you please point out my bigoted views…and where my logic is flawed.

              And, can you please explain how you know what Muslims are thinking.

              IMO invoking blasphemy is the greatest sin of all.

            • At this stage I’m going to ask you two (Corky and Kitty Catkin) to please refrain from your ongoing bickering. I suggest you don’t respond to each other at all given your records. You are not proving anything other than your mutual intolerance.If you can’t deal with it yourselves I will have to step in some more.
