The fearless crusading Stuff journalists who talked nothing but housing crisis for years are calling the abject Kiwibuild failure as a PR stumble. Instead of 10,000 as promised Twyford bought less than a hundred off the plans that were already being built.

Prediction: KiwiBuild – the plan to build 100,000 affordable homes over 10 years – stumbles out of the gate, and the Government aren’t all that clear about how many houses have been built. Estimates have it at less than 300, but the Government insists it will ramp up much more in the following year.

Outcome: Progress has been slow with less than 100 built, though the Government insists it is on track. But there have been some PR stumbles. 8/10

Farcical. Is this holding Govt to account or licking their feet?

There was a famous comment of a right wing blog about a year back on housing affordability.
“Whats this about houses being unaffordable , Ive got 25”

There was never going to be 10,000 in the first year. Just like not all the Nationals Roads of national significance RONS were even completed in 9 years, ( 2 or 3 still under construction after 10 years) labour will take some time as expected to get to 10,000 per year.

Where is the pathway to increasing the housing supply by 10,000 a year. What is the legislative agenda ? Where are the plans to get rid of the bottlenecks to further supply to lower percentile house builds ?

Good ol’ Fran. She’s been a brick. Quite like her getting this award, but I expect some other journos will be a bit miffed.
