Here’s me adopted grandpooklets at 9 am this morning. Little River is up on the blocks. Big Bruv Shadow’s doing fine; bold as brass (I think he’s boy). But River’s “twin” Summer is already growing bigger & despite my entreaties to the adults to “Feed River, feed River” the little one seems to get ignored at times. I worry just a tad about the runty one, as ya do, when ya a grandparent.

PS: Seamus Shag has complained about not getting a mention on some other blog sites.

The heat’s making the birds very thirsty; I have to do a refill nearly every day. The mynahs drink the bathwater.

Some cat or possum has broken another branch, blast them.

We’ve had a couple of overcast days with occasional drizzly rain / misty hilltops and a lot of wind, but we’re back to a hot, sunny day with barely a breeze today. On days like this I’ll get the occasional sparrow turning up on the kitchen window ledge having spotted me there, which is wringing wet, feathers all matted & sticking up on top in a mohawk, fresh up from a bath in the stream. Makes me smile. Little punkies.

Last night your godpook Alex flapped up onto the streamside dining room window ledge and & tapping on the window, He flew off in fright when I opened the net curtain gently to try and get a video of him. I’ve left the curtain open today, just in case he does it again. Looked so cute.

He pretends to be a short eel, zooming along under the water over the far side, but has to come up for air and blows his cover.

He’s another hunter Possum. Just an occasional visitor. It will be interesting to see what happens when he bumps into Elvira or Big Ella one day.

(faintly) It’s over 30 outside and 26 inside with two fans in this part of the room which make it bearable. The thermometer outside is in the shade, and has a little roof.

I knew at once that that was Ulster; I grew up with images of places like that. My mother’s family owned a cabin like that in the Mourne Mountains and spent holidays there. Once, when she was there with schoolfriends, they were terrified by loud banging on the door. Nobody was there, of course. These things happen there.
