Wages too low no one wants to do hard backbreaking work for minimum wage.
So lets bring in third world workers and keep paying low wages …EH.

The amount of immigration scams reported shows what happens when you screw over working New Zealanders by bring in cheap overseas labor . You are also bringing in the corruption and human rights abuses experienced in the places they import the workers from .

Depends if you are on contract or an hourly rate doing a colour pick or a strip pick, Griff.

Twenty years ago when I worked on an orchard the average solo picker on contract made roughly $150 a day. Gun workers who could really work a hydro or ladder made between $200-300 per day.

Of course rates vary from orchard to orchard. Some orchardists are extremely poor payers.

So you are supportive of Trumps aims in stopping 3rd world migrants undercutting locals wages.

I believe that the pay is standard and for a bin rather than by the hour, and a good picker can earn $18+ an hour. If pickers were paid by the hour, regardless of how much they picked, there would be no incentive to pick at any great speed.

For their next article the Guardian will be dealing with the question: “Is it ever OK for actors who are not trained chefs to play chef roles?”, followed by “Is it ever OK for an actor who is not the real boyfriend/girlfriend of another actor to play a role as their boyfriend/girlfriend?”.

It’s great you’ve added Argumentum Ad Absurdum to your repertoire; poor old Tu Quoque was starting to get really lonely. (And you gotta love the irony of me commenting about logical fallacies!)
