Senator Martha Elizabeth McSally (born March 22, 1966) is an American United States Air Force combat veteran and politician serving as the junior U.S. Senator from Arizona. A Republican, she previously served as the U.S. Representative for Arizona’s 2nd congressional district.

McSally served in the United States Air Force (USAF) from 1988 to 2010 and rose to the rank of colonel before retiring. One of the highest-ranking female pilots in the history of the Air Force, McSally was the first American woman to fly in combat following the 1991 lifting of the prohibition on female combat pilots. McSally flew the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II close air support aircraft over Iraq and Kuwait during Operation Southern Watch.

She was also the first female commander of a USAF fighter squadron (the 354th Fighter Squadron (354 FS), based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base). In 2001, she sued the United States Department of Defense in McSally v. Rumsfeld, challenging the military policy that required United States and United Kingdom servicewomen stationed in Saudi Arabia to wear the body-covering abaya when traveling off base in the country. – Wikipedia

Guessing probably not a fan of Saudi Crown Prince MBS. Does seem to have unsuccessfully attempted to sell the Trump Shutdown (#longestevershutdown #trumpshutdown #trumpshutup #nobodyknowsmoreaboutshutdownsthandonaldjtrumpn #canttheirrichfathersloanthemmoney) as the #schumershutdown, mind you.

Yep, not fan of Saudis. And they wouldn’t be fans our hers …

    More from Wikipedia:
McSally took a successful 2001 lawsuit against the Department of Defense, challenging the military policy that required U.S. and U.K. servicewomen stationed in Saudi Arabia to wear the body-covering abaya when traveling off base in the country. McSally, as a Major (O-4), was the highest ranking female fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force.

Her suit alleged “the regulations required her to send the message that she believes women are subservient to men.” In addition to the issue of religious garb, McSally noted that policies also included other requirements. In a “60 Minutes” interview broadcast on CBS on January 20, 2002, she described the discrimination she experienced under the policy:

“I have to sit in the back and at all times I must be escorted by a male … [who], when questioned, is supposed to claim me as his wife,” she said. “I can fly a single-seat aircraft in enemy territory, but [in Saudi Arabia] I can’t drive a vehicle.

She was granted audience with several high-level officials, including two Secretaries of Defense, William Cohen and Donald Rumsfeld. General Tommy Franks, then commander of the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), announced in 2002 that U.S. military servicewomen would no longer be required to wear the abaya, although they would be “encouraged” to do so as a show of respect for local customs.

Commenting on the change, Central Command spokesman Colonel Rick Thomas said it was not made because of McSally’s lawsuit, but had already been “under review” before the lawsuit was filed. News reports noted that McSally had been fighting for a change in the policy for seven years, and had filed the lawsuit after she had been threatened with a court martial if she did not comply and wear the abaya.

Critics of the policy noted that while female U.S. military personnel had been required to wear the abaya outside of military installations in Saudi Arabia, the situation was not the same for “women diplomats” of the U.S. Department of State assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, who were actually encouraged not to wear the abaya when they were involved in official business, “…because they are representing the United States.”

Others noted that the two departments frequently have different policies and procedures in foreign countries such as alcohol consumption in Afghanistan which is permitted by the State Department but prohibited for military personnel by General Order #1. Embassy officials stated that, “…in their personal time, embassy employees can choose how to dress.” According to these U.S. officials, “…the Saudi government does not require non-Muslim women to wear a dark robe known as an abaya…. The official guidance, issued by the Saudi Embassy in Washington, says that foreigners should dress conservatively but they are not required to wear the robe.”

The U.S. Congress passed legislation prohibiting anyone in the military from “requiring or encouraging servicewomen to put on abayas in Saudi Arabia or to use taxpayers’ money to buy them. Following her USAF career, McSally has continued to speak out about gender relations in Saudi Arabia.
    …………
Still, she’s a Republican, so … disgraceful rude American imperialist militarist lackey flagrantly disregards & insults local customs of foreign host country ! 😉

US school apologises for students mocking elderly Native American
Catholic school students may face expulsion for their behaviour at Indigenous Peoples March in Washington.

Videos circulating online show a smarmy dim-lookingTrumpistanado youth staring at and standing extremely close to Nathan Phillips

A US diocese has apologised and vowed to take action after videos emerged showing boys from a Catholic private school mocking an elderly Native American man at a rally in the capital, Washington, prompting widespread criticism.

Trump seems to bring out the worst in people, those for AND against him. Hopefully both the Dems & Gops will find some decent POTUS candidates & get shot of the bs-ing, whining, dim-wiited, egotistical tosser by the 2020 election.

    Just saying.

Is he smirking or smiling ? A smile can easily look like a rictus when it’s held for too long. That’s why early photos don’t show people smiling; the long exposure time tended to make them look manic/

Because we heard that he was the smirking teenager, I didn’t question it at first.

Yes they showed a quite extensive item on 1 ewes. The police have arrested four men already. They call themselves the New IRA or something. They are being roundly condemned by Sinn Fein & everybody – idiots. Nobody wants to see all that misery start up again. Luckily the police had spotted the car before they phoned in a warning and cleared the rest of the street apparently. Hope the bastards go down for a good long stretch. Waiting to hear more about the idiots.

Watch: Hijacked pizza delivery car explodes outside Northern Ireland courthouse
Police in Northern Ireland suspect Irish Republican Army dissidents were behind a car bombing outside a courthouse in the city of Londonderry.

Two men in their 20s have been arrested over the attack [four now, according to 1ewes at 6], which caused no injuries. The attackers hijacked a pizza delivery vehicle, loaded it with explosives and left it outside the city-center courthouse on Sunday, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said.

The device exploded as police, who had spotted the suspicious vehicle, were evacuating the area.

The New IRA is it. I’ll believe that the Troubles are gone for good when there have been no incidents for longer than they have been.

          That was a quick arrest.

Surely being retards and wearing MAGA hats is being offensive to American First People’s? It’s offensive to everybody. Plus, did somebody say they were Catholics too? I mean, you have to wonder – surely?

Yeah, but she & her dodgy millionaire husband seem to have been getting investigated for dodgy spending & receiving bribes in the form of moneymaking or valuable “gifts” for yonks now. Alway seems to be some investigation or other cropping up on Aljaz tv every so often. Never amounted to anything yet. They probably feel safe as houses.

Bibi is keen as hell to attack Iran but he dare not do it without the US ready to pile in with him. Can’t say I entirely blame him – as far as I know the Iranians still want to wipe Israelis out of Palestine. Too late for that now. And the Arab countries would only turn on Israel & join them if they were certain they could do it. The Saudis couldn’t fight their way out a wet paper bag with MBS as their CIC.

That’s how I see things Atm, anyway.

  8. There are too many excuses for hatred. At least some have had the decency to acknowledge this. Covington Catholic High School and the Roman Catholic diocese have issued a statement condemning the behaviour of Covington Catholic students:

“We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic high school students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person. The matter is being investigated and we will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion. We know this incident also has tainted the entire witness of the March for Life and express our sincere apologies to all those who attended the March and those who support the pro-life movement.” [my emphasis]

The WH video manipulation of Jim Acosta stands in testimony to how videos can be manipulated or edited to tell whatever story one wants.

The words of the school and the Diocese are less easily twisted. As they them, selves state categorically, the behaviour of their students is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.

Had a quick skim. Certainly seems to be referring to a lot of over the top stuff over there in local rags about small beer, but 1ewes wasn’t talking about that.

            Aljaz has covered it too:

What departments are affected? What does the shutdown mean for federal workers?
The shutdown affects more than 800,000 federal workers in nine different departments, as well as several federal agencies. This includes the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, State, Transportation and Treasury.

Federal workers deemed “essential” are required to work without pay. Others are furloughed, or placed on temporary leave.

Federal employees have sued the US government over the requirement that some workers must work without pay. After past government shutdowns, Congress has approved back pay for federal workers, but the American Federation of Government Employees, which launched the recent lawsuit, called the requirement to work without pay “inhumane”.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has stopped many of its services, but officials said the agency would continue issuing tax refunds. Immigration courts have also been affected, worsening an already existing backlog, which includes more than 800,000 cases.

A sign at the entrance to the Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook, warns visitors of limited services, such as closed restrooms, during the partial government shutdown – Republicans shitting themselves

According to Democratic Representative Sharice Davids, who was recently sworn in, the shutdown has had a direct effect on Native Americans’ lives. “I spoke with one tribal leader who said that they actually lost a tribal member because they were unable to plough the roads so that an emergency service vehicle could get to him in time,” Davids recently told National Public Radio (NPR). Davids explained that federal funds that go to tribal communities for services such as ploughing roads and healthcare have stopped due to the shutdown.

On January 2, the Smithsonian museums and National Zoo in Washington, DC, closed due to the shutdown. Some national parks have also closed or have limited services. Many of the thousands of federal workers affected by the shutdown have expressed anxiety over not receiving their paycheques.

In Detroit, federal worker Gregory Simpkins told the Associated Press, “Next week, it’s going to be a panic mode. How are we going to pay rent? How are we going to pay out bills? How in the hell are we going to eat?” Unions representing workers have led protests throughout the country, demanding an end to the shutdown.

While the effect of the shutdown is not felt by most Americans, millions could be hit if it does not end by February.Citizens and resident of the US who are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) may have their assistance disrupted in March.

Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials have said SNAP beneficiaries will continue to receive assistance through February, but they could not make any guarantees if the shutdown continued into the following month. On December 28, the USDA noted that other programmes may continue to operate on money that is currently available but will receive no new federal funding during the shutdown.

“Most other domestic nutrition assistance programmes, such as the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, WIC, and the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, can continue to operate at the State and local level with any funding and commodity resources that remain available. Additional Federal funds will not be provided during the period of the lapse, however, deliveries of already-purchased commodities will continue,” USDA said.
