Mixed messages from Jamie-lee Ross

Newshub gave Jami-lee Ross top billing on their news tonight with an exclusive interview.

He gave mixed messages, saying that he didn’t want to throw bombs or be vindictive, but he wants to put his side of stories forward, which targeted Simon Bridges and Paula Bennett, who both disputed his assertions.

Ross also raised a police investigation of the MP who he had had a relationship with and who texted him saying she thought he deserved to die, which is apparently being investigated as possible incitement to self-harm.

Ross also said that the people of the Botany electorate ‘didn’t deserve’ the cost of a by-election, but clearly a by-election wouldn’t cost them anything. Ross won’t want a by-election as it would likely mean the end of his career as an MP.

This doesn’t look like the end of the Ross saga, but he has a lot to do to get some credibility as an MP back. His return to Parliament in a few weeks is likely to be quite awkward for him.

It is notable that the journalist who started the unravelling of Ross, Tova O’Brien, was the one who secured this interview. her role in all of this has been justifiably been questioned.

UPDATE: Ross has followed up this news spot with a lengthy statement on Facebook. See JLR: “…didn’t get everything right. I am sorry. I will do better.”

    Tova o’ Brien role questioned?
She was leaked some expenses for limos used by Bridges and she used it in a story that was an exclusive. Isn’t that that journalists do.
National was happy to raise the cost of VIP travel for Ron Marks flying in Air force helicopters on official duties…. Yet they claim their shit doesn’t stink.

    • “She was leaked some expenses for limos used by Bridges and she used it in a story that was an exclusive. Isn’t that that journalists do.”

She was used by Ross or someone else (it looks to me that Ross was at least involved) to dump on Bridges, leaking that would shortly be revealed publicly anyway.

I don’t think journalists should be tools of politicians or political activists.

Yes – seems likely Tova was utilised by Ross to get the Bridges’ expense story out there and now her payback is an exclusive interview with Ross.

National speaking up about Ron Marks using the Air Force as his personal taxi service is a very sickly looking squirrel indeed from Duker.

Personal taxi service…… The AF offered . Like the limos the RNZAF has flying hours and money allocated for carrying VIPs…to them it’s ‘money that will be spent anyway’ ..it’s not like the abuse in Australia where a speaker used a chopper to quickly get to a wedding reception.
Bridges wanted to travel around the country raising money for the party, good on him

Some people still don’t or won’t see that the point is not WHAT was leaked but the fact that ANYTHING was leaked when it was not supposed to be made public at that point.

Apparently in your world Jacinda Ardern should pass legislation that only allows her, Neve or the boyfriend (or all 3 together) to grace the Women’s mags.

A bit like December’s ‘our new life with baby Neve’ Xmas cover for Australian Women’s weekly (NZ edition) perhaps?

None of those Ardern stories were invited into their home.
Bridges has pushed his kids in front of the cameras to an extent that English and Key never did when their kids were young

            Talking to the BBC;

“Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she won’t be letting partner Clarke Gayford off the hook by asking him to marry her.”

Ardern on Neve: “”At the end of a day, when it’s easy to feel like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders, at least the weight of your country, it’s amazing what just her giggling at me can do to bring perspective.”

Good interview by Jacinda. As reported there. Comes across like a nice, down-to-earth young woman, with a GSOH, who knows how to separate her professional & family life, & the job of being a PM (or politician) from her other roles & responsibilities as an unmarried wife & a mother of a very young child.

When I think of some of the interviews John Key had, talking about whether he peed in the shower (or was it cutting his pubic hairs, or both?), and planking, and so on, she comes out way ahead as not being a national embarrassment trying to be down-to-earth like John Key, who faked it really.

Exclusive is irrelevant here. It was classified information and someone blabbed it to Tova O’Brien who then blabbed it to the whole country. The trouble caused and suspicion that must have fallen on so many people over something that was going to be released soon anyway was dreadful.

Good leak – when you reveal information to damage your political opponent.

Bad leak- when you reveal information to damage your political opponent in your own party.

This isn’t kindergarten and yes political parties have enough backstabbers and weasels of their own. It’s absurd to think this isn’t the way it is.

        • Kitty Catkin

           /  January 22, 2019

Pointless and irrelevant, the information should never have been leaked and Tova should never have passed it on. It was about to be released, anyway. The point is that it was government information and as such should not have been blabbed on the news.

    All that interview confirms is the guy is a narcissist & liar;

    *Plays the victim.
    *Thinks most people support him.
*The ‘go kill yourself’ text he received was some time (months from memory) before he sent the “you get your wish” reply when the cops found him. Previously he has said (or Slater told us – can’t remember) he reread that old text whilst flicking through them. He makes it sound in the article she text him to kill himself & he reacted straight away to do so.
*He takes no real blame for his demise instead choosing to mostly blame the National party.
*He takes little responsibility for what his wife and family went through instead seemingly blaming the National party for ‘putting pressure on him’.

Harmful digital communications are exactly designed to catch people saying things like Die.

    Snort.
Tova didn’t even bother to ask when text was sent.

And then doesn’t call him out on his decision to stay on to save his electorate money.

Harmful digital communications include cyber bullying and harassment, eg:

sending or publishing threatening or offensive material
          spreading damaging rumours
sending or publishing sensitive personal information, eg embarrassing photos and videos.
Contact the Police if the communication causes you serious emotional distress (eg an intimate image of you posted without your permission) is otherwise harassing, encourages suicide or threatens your safety.
Police never acted on political circumsyances- ask Todd Barclay. Doesn’t mean HE didn’t commit a crime
