What a start to the year it has been in the UK. Most of the political stories have been Brexit and as it has been variations in the same themes with very little movement I haven’t bothered posting every small nuance. Negotiations are continuing as Theresa May tries to get some movement from the EU on the backstop, meanwhile the clock continues to tick towards 29 March – less than 6 weeks away.

Meanwhile in politics outside Brexit, 7 Labour MPs quit the party today citing the anti Semitic and bullying culture that hat was now prevalent in the party. The MOs are always fficialky independent m, but they will align on policy ideas and voting, essentially they will be a party in all but name.

Whilst the Labour split is the big political news, it is not the news that dominated the media over the weekend.

19 year old Shamima Begum has been headline news for the last few days, splitting opinion between what is right and what is legal.

4 years ago she left the UK with two friends to travel to Syria during her midterm holidays. The girls left to join ISIS/ISIL (whichever you wish to call them), they planned and travelled via Turkey to Syria, they had planned this, saved, and bought air tickets during one of the most expensive times to travel.

The girls all married Job hadis in Syria and lived there voluntarily, at least one was killed by an air strike, no-one knows what happened to the third girl.

Last week a Times reporter tracked Shamima Begum down in a refugee camp, heavily pregnant. During the interview with the Times she expressed no remorse or regret and said she wanted to come home to have her baby because it would be looked after by the NHS, as her previous two children dues from illness and malnutrition. She said that seeing the severed heads of ISIS victims did not faze her and she was comfortable with that.

Since the initial story broke there has been debate in what should happen to her, most want her to be denied returning to the UK, however legally as she is a British citizen, with no other citizenship, she cannot be left stateless and therefore the UK cannot refuse her entry to the country or revoke her citizenship. Some believe she was a naive 15 yr old and therefore should be allowed to come home, however her lack of concern about what she did disputes this theory.

Sky News did an interview with her over the weekend where she went further and said that life had got hard for her now so she wants to go home. She has said that she deserves sympathy for running away to become a Jihadi bride, and her lawyer this morning compared her to an soldier with PTSD (specifically a WWI soldier with shell shock). Further, tonight it has come out that she defended the Manchester bombing – and other ISIS attacks.

She has divided opinion on whether she should be let back in, though most believe her child should be removed from her care and adopted out in a closed adoption.

Yep. It’s a measure of how well the Democrats have scared millions of Christians in the USA, which I’m sure every Christian hater here applauds – until the Democrats lose a Presidential election.

Never mind, in spite of their supposed principles on things like abortion, millions of Catholics still reliably vote Democrat every election. Never heard any complaints about that from the usual suspects. 🙂

Democrat scaring Christians, Christian haters, it all sounds rather Trumpish.

Trump’s supporters say the FBI betrayed the country. The FBI says Trump betrayed the country.

But four judges have weighed in — and they all side with the FBI.

Blazer is right. Trump has spent his life conning people. He’s a con artist. pure & simple.
