There has been a lot of talk & speculation but very little action on Brexit over the last few weeks, however two main turning points in two days has potentially shifted the goalposts.

First, last night (Monday) Jeremy Corbin agreed to putting a second referendum on the table. Basically, Labour have an alternative deal that they believe the EU will agree to, a deal that keeps the UK permanently in a Customs Union with the EU. Corbin have said if their deal is rejected by Parliament then they will table a motion for a second referendum for the electorate to choose between May’s deal or Remaining in the EU. This is now official Labour policy.

Second. Today May gave a statement to the Cimmins in which she said a second meaningful vote on her deal will be held on 12 March, note this is the last possible moment as the EU will only be able to vote on it in 13 March if it passes. She has also said that if the vote fails then she will hold a vote on 13 March to get approval to leave with no deal, if this vote fails (as most expect it to) then she will hold a vote for a small extension to Article 50, if this passes she will take it to the EU. Any extension cannot go beyond 30 June without the UK having to hold EU elections in May.

  2. “Matthew Whitaker, the embattled former acting head of the Justice Department, agreed Tuesday to meet with members of the House Judiciary Committee to clarify testimony earlier this month in which he denied that President Donald Trump had complained to him about federal prosecutors investigating Trump’s businesses.”

US President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen has begun a three-day gauntlet of congressional appearances by giving a closed-door interview to the Senate intelligence committee, where he is expected to detail what he claims to know about Trump’s contacts with Russians and other sensitive matters related to the president.

CNN reported that the now-disbarred lawyer has faced an “extensive grilling” behind closed doors.

Senators are alternately suspicious of Cohen, who is set to serve time in prison for lying to the committee in 2017, and eager to hear what Trump’s former loyal fixer has to say after he turned on his longtime boss, who once called Cohen a “rat”.

A top ally of US President Donald Trump appeared to threaten a witness on the eve of a high-profile congressional hearing, suggesting that he would expose the President’s former lawyer Michael Cohen as a womaniser should he testify against Trump.

“Hey @MichaelCohen212 – Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends?” Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, R, a fierce defender of the President, wrote on Twitter. “Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot.”

Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan shot down two Indian air force fighter jets and launched air strikes at six targets in Indian-administered Kashmir, its military says, in a dramatic ratcheting up of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

The Indian air force jets were shot down over Pakistani airspace in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Wednesday, a day after Indian aircraft launched air raids on Pakistani territory, Pakistani military spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor said.

Two Indian air force pilots were taken into custody, Ghafoor said, with one of them being treated for wounds at a military hospital.

India’s foreign ministry has confirmed that one of their pilots is missing and that they are “ascertaining the facts”.
