/ 14th March 2019Paul Manafort is in prison after being sentenced last week, receiving a much lighter sentence than the prosecution asked for. The judge said he had an otherwise blameless life, despite waiting for sentence on other charges.
And now he faces more charges.

Breaking. US president announces plan to ground all Boeing 737 Max 8s & Max 9s. Says Boeing are an incredible company & are working hard on the problem.
duperez
/ 14th March 2019The planes have been grounded by many countries.
I didn’t read that “Ardern grounds all Boeing 737 Max planes over safety fears” or “Morrison grounds all Boeing 737 Max planes over safety fears” but I did read “Trump grounds all Boeing 737 Max planes over safety fears.”
Gezza
/ 14th March 2019It’s because the airline and FAA refused to ground them, so Trump is issuing an emergency executive order to ground them.
Gezza
/ 14th March 2019*US airlines refused
Gezza
/ 14th March 2019Canadian airlines refused to ground theirs too. Be interesting to see what they do now.
Gezza
/ 14th March 2019Canada has barred the planes from their airspace now too.

No deal exit?
Gezza
/ 14th March 2019Oh aljaz tv saying No Deal Exit at any time – is rejected.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019It was an amendment to the main motion.
It is non-binding, just an indication of the position of House of Commons.
Gezza
/ 14th March 2019Very confused state of affairs.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019It is. The law as it stands still has the UK leaving on 29 May regardless of whether they have a deal or not.

Gezza
/ 14th March 2019Tragic scenes in Lagos, Nigeria, where a three storey building has completely collapsed, trapping occupants, including up to a 100 children attending a primary school on the top floor. Amateur rescuers are desperately scrabbling through the rubble with bare hands, trying to find & save anybody still alive. Still waiting on an organised official rescue to get underway. A couple of children shown being carried out, at least one still alive, but rescuers say there are dead bodies in there.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019Another day another Brexit vote.
Tonight the House will vote on the motion put forward by the Government last night. There are a number of non binding amendments to be voted on first.
The first amendment is to take No Deal off the table long term. The MP (a Government MP) that put it forward then tried to have it removed, however, she wasn’t able to. The Government had a three line whip. This amendment passed by 4 votes.
Gezza

Missy
/ 14th March 2019We wish!
Missy
/ 14th March 2019It is believed that some Ministers voted against the whip on this, so it will be interesting to see who voted for it. The Government should have won it, but that they didn’t shows that some on the Government benches voted for it.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019Amendment number 2 is on the Malthouse compromise.
This has the support of the powerful ERG, and other backbench Brexiteers. This was slapped down previously by the PM as a non-starter, however, she has agreed for it to be put forward.
This amendment has three main points. 1. It asks for an extension of Article 50 to May 22 (day before the European Elections). 2. It asks for the backstop to be removed completely. 3. It would extend the transition period to 2021 to allow time to negotiate the future relationship.
The PM has given a free vote on this amendment after 15 Brexiteer Cabinet Members went to her and threatened to resign and bring her Government down if she didn’t allow her Ministers to vote for it – it is expected to fail however.

At least eight people have been killed in a shooting incident that took place at an elementary school near Sao Paulo in Brazil.
The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday after two young men were seen entering the building and firing weapons before committing suicide, police said.
Police said that two adolescents, wearing face masks, entered the building and started shooting at about 9:30am local time (06:30 GMT).
“Eight people died at the scene, including the two assailants who committed suicide,” said a state military police spokesman.
“Two injured people died after being taken to hospital.”
Around 15 people were injured in the shooting at the Raul Brasil public school in Suzano, southeast Brazil.
Sao Paulo state Governor Joao Doria said four children and two members of staff were among the dead.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019Government is imposing a three line whip against their motion as amended.
It will be interesting to see who will break the whip.
The wording of the motion is a little confusing, but as I understand it (I am looking for the exact wording) the motion declines to approve leaving with no deal by 29 March but notes that remains the default position unless a deal is agreed.
So, my understanding is that the Government is being whipped to keep no deal on the table.
It will be interesting to see what happens in this vote, and how many Ministers will be resigning tomorrow.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019There are reports that some Cabinet Ministers are abstaining on this.
Expect some Ministerial sackings or resignations tomorrow.

Missy
/ 14th March 201920 Ministers abstained on this vote.
They should quit – if they aren’t sacked.
Missy
/ 14th March 2019The report of 20 Ministers abstaining is now being dissed by other media, it is only 5. Not sure why journalists were tweeting that 20 had abstained, you would think that they would have the facts correct! I suspect they meant 20 Government Ministers and MPs.
One Minister has resigned over it.
A former Minister is apparently texting journalists to say that he has told the chief whip if the Ministers who abstained are not sacked then no MP will ever obey the whip again. Pretty obvious really.

/ 14th March 2019It seems May isn’t sacking the Ministers that abstained / voted against her.
The ERG are now indicating they will vote for the deal if it goes back to the House on the condition May resigns. I hope they get her to resign BEFORE the vote, she has screwed them over once before.
