    There’s a mouse in the house.

    There’s always one who has to come early to book the best nesting place.

        The towels are well thought of. I unrolled one and found The Scarlet Pimpermouse snug inside. He was so called because he actually seemed to vanish ! I saw him marching along the windowsill, and, although I didn’t look away, he’d vanished before I got there with the idea of flipping him out the window.

        A mouse was swimming in the loo
        When I went in one morning;
        It said ‘You took your blimmin time !
        Well, don’t just stand there yawning !
        I can’t get out, this pool’s steep sides
        Are far too slick and shiny;
        If you’d been here as long as me,
        Well, you’d be cross and whiny !’

        I picked the little mousie out,
        And stood him on a table,
        And dried him with a little towel
        As far as I was able.
        He looked at me with trusting eyes,
        Let down his mousy guard,
        And just before he went outside
        He left a calling card.

          Little mice don’t do it twice. They won’t only stop at thrice. They’re doing wees constantly. Incontinent, impertinent fleas. Which they might as well be, the way they vanish. Leaving only a wonder in the throat – did I consider screaming? Well Kitty, I would have, but clearly you’re not that sort who considers them as fiendish.

            Well, they’re part of creation. I don’t encourage them, but I don’t kill them. I have a net with a long handle and that is very effective at catching them and carrying them out. They’re too tiny to be afraid of. They’re really quite sweet.
