I dont think our PM Jacinda Ardern can become any better other than curing people by touching them.

At least President Trumpy knows how to do things properly. This liberal nut may have seen too many Maori hongi on TV. And he has the cheek to run for president of the USA, the most sacred political office in the world. To be fair, his old boss did weird stuff, too.

Hootton is suggesting Ardern go to the polls now and jettison herself of NZ First and before the economy slows further, and of course her favourable coverage at the moment.
Smart guy and usually right on the money but on this one I think he is wrong, it would be deeply unpopular to call an election for totally selfish reasons when there is nothing pressing that she cant get through the parliament. PMs who go early get smacked hard just look at Australia and the UK and we have 3 year term which is absurdly short anyway.

I agree..unless this so-called revolutionary budget coming up is so left of out field that voters are gob smacked, then may be the time to cash in on her sainthood, call an election..and attend Simon Bridges farewell party as he exits politics.

Look at the UK when the Tories thought going against Corbyn would gift them an insurmountable majority only for them to loses seats and be in a worse position. May was pretty popular when the campaign started, folk dont like selfish politicians messing with their electoral process and the UK has a 5 year term.

Uk Conservatives increased their vote by 5% – in that May was very successful, just FPP mucked them around as they gained 20 new seats but lost 33.
Labour and Conservatives had a leave EU election policy.

Research NZ asked “whether they felt New Zealanders are ‘accepting of cultural and religious diversity’; “55% either held the view that New Zealanders are not, or were unsure”. Only 41% think immigration from Asia will have a “positive impact”, those with “most knowledge” are “most positive” (Asia NZ Foundation 2017). RNZ reported that as the shooting started a tradesman in a white van drove by a shouted “time to celebrate”. We cannot assume Adern is popular when people have their own perspective.

Friday’s attack should remind us that in most *Western democracies*, the number of deadly events motivated by extreme-right beliefs is considerably higher than those motivated by Islamist extremism. That said, it is mainly an underground and unorganized threat, and those who shape public opinion should be careful of blaming those operating in the public sphere and within legal boundaries such as radical right parties or anti-immigrant protest movements. There is actually a negative correlation between electoral support for radical right parties in Western democracies and the levels of deadly attacks with an extreme-right motivation.

However there is considerable effort to link anti-immigration sentiment and criticisms of multiculturalism with far right violence as an excuse to forward an agenda.

Read in full that is an interesting & informative article about how many more attacks in the West are by white supremacists rather than Islamic terrorists. I note that Breivik’s (not Brevik) manifesto was 1500 pages long, not 150, as I have written elsewhere today. You still seem to me to be a proud racist though, sorethumb, & I don’t like that about you.

I didn’t see any statistics to justify that claim and the author repeatedly cites “extreme right” without any apparent justification for that label either. He doesn’t use the term white supremists and Brevik killed whites.

I didn’t & don’t have the time to expand on the above in more detail, I’m off back to ma’s. You could perhaps apply your research & analytical skills to track down the numbers yourself? Or selectively research to back up your wish to refute it from the outset, as you often do, in my opinion.

I’m more interested in his motivation & methodology, & inspiration, & the distinction becoming clearer the more I read between locally organised groups of Islamic terrorists who create mayhem in their own territories & the more spread out local expressions of racist or supremacist hatred that are supported & likely & in some cases even visibly growing in “white” societies that tolerate it (while arguing they are against it) & yet ignore it until there is an eruption of it by lone actors like Breivik or Tarrant.

He didn’t kill “whites”. He killed people who were part of the group he blamed for enabling his culture & racial group to be overrun by or potentially marginalised by other races & cultures. They happened to be white.

And defenceless. He was a gutless as well as evil prick, like Tarrant, in that respect too.

Artcroft posted an interesting podcast in Media Watch. I wanted to spend my limited time at home listening to that. I realised afterwards it was relevant to this issue in some ways. Especially in the US.

          Gotta go. Nite Al.

Brevik killed whites- Norwegian labour party who he blamed for muslim migration. That sorts that out.
Similar to the Pittburg gunman, who killed Jewish whites because they supported (Latin?) Migrants.

@G, after completely misrepresenting sorethumb’s link now you want me to research one of your presumptions while having the cheek to assert that’s what I do.

@Duker, if Brevik had wanted to kill Muslims he would have. Strange white supremist that kills his own. He was a political maniac.

You demand I research yours and accuse me of researching mine.
Mostly my research is to test other people’s claims.

I saw no reason to dispute the claim without examining the various studies establishing the data that are referred to in one of the links.

I know who received a backlash on talkback this afternoon….this mushy liberal prick.

Another socialist who wants to destroy the complete fabric of what we are as a nation.

Talking of a cultural identity..why were people entering court to see Tarrant appear (on live screen) greeted in Arabic?

That was a court of law. English is the language for procedural matters. What the hell is wrong with this country?

Christchurch was a parochial, White-folks, Christian place. It isn’t that today and it’s churchy land-marks seem from a past era.

I have no strong feeling either way. I have a problem with people like Neil who want to chuck some of our heritage as a matter of course because:

“It was too small, too pedestrian and ultimately a pale pastiche of another time and place. English Victorian Gothic.”

English Victorian..well I never, one of the donor’s for the creation of New Zealand as a State.

It’s this incessant drive by the left, in government and education, to diss and wipe out our colonial past that gets me.

Nowdays they wouldn’t dare do that to Maori. And probably Muslims wouldn’t treat a mosque the same way (?).

            • I kind of agree with him. I was born and raised there, felt nothing for it then and still don’t. The area around the river and the town hall would make a better city centre-piece than the Square and the Cathedral in my humble opinion

Yes, that name is ”so white..and not right.” I think we need to ”get with it.” What about
”Shaky Town?” ” New Auckland?” ”Hope And Glory?” ” Smog City?” ”Greensville?”
