The Sri Lanka bombings ( no one has claimed responsibility) will make an interesting case study to see if there is the same worldwide out pouring of grief the Christchurch massacre received.

To be fair I heard a news report saying there had been a history of violence and vandalism against Christian churches. That’s a big step up for our media to report that in my opinion.

Meanwhile I see Sri Lanka will reintroduce the death penalty, especially for drug smugglers.

Asia is going back to old school methods.

John Roughan wrongly calls out Ardern for not using her political capital to impose a CGT on investment properties only, he is wrong and she is right. He makes the comparison with Key and asset sales but its a myth that it is a big issue for NZers, most dont care and wont be affected which they perhaps could be with a CGT.
Ardern has an extended brightline test and changed the tax law so a CGT would raise very little and possibly reduce supply and raise rents. It would have been a total waste of political capital, I dont see why the commentariat are constantly calling for MPs to use up their political capital by doing something unpopular.

Fact Check on the desecration of Christian Churches in France. Unfortunately the reality and bs isn’t that great in the scheme of things.

CBN is another rightwing, biassed, not too fussy about accuracy organisation; hardly surprising when one reads who’s behind it. It has a high rate of conspiracy theories and what it says should be checked against reliable sources. It’s rating is one short of tin hat.

It’s been a sad fact that churches are an easy target for vandals worldwide. Many English churches that used to stand open have had to be locked and had security devices installed because of this and have had for decades.

Thefts from churches have been rife for a long time.Si have people spraypainting obscenities and satanist messages. Even the Anglican church near me, a historic building, was tagged by vandals.

France has a long history of anti-clericalism and opposition to religion.

In France, the desecration and destruction of religious places and symbols began with the Revolution.

CBN shows swastikas painted on Jewish graves; this has been going on for many decades and is far more likely to be done by Neo-Nazis than anyone else.

Chuck Birds views, for what they are worth…..2 cents….same old same old

Jade, I will report back next week after attending the Central North Island Conference in Hamilton next weekend. I hope I will be able to get in more than a one sentence question(HE BORES them to).
I am not all that optimistic considering that National has not opposed making the continued possession of the manifesto a serious criminal offence.
I see that some activist Muslims are pushing hard for hate speech legislation. Will National be looking at which way will get the most votes before they decide on this policy
CHUCK BIRDS name is probably on a list of undesirable in a safe somewhere, should we start a give a little page when the nasal annoying Canadian is picked up for being Chuck Bird

Yesterday I searched the names in the April 11 intelligence report which warned of attacks. One took me to a 2006 media report of Jihadis who were fighting the Tamil LTTE as allies of the Sri Lankan Govt in Batticaloa. One of the men mentioned in the April 11 warning, Zahran, is pictured in the 2006 piece. IS has now distributed photos of three alleged suicide bombers including Zahran. Below I quote from the 2006 piece and once more link to it –

‘ “we know that certain wealthy persons (meaning non-state actors) are helping various religious groups in Sri Lanka to put up mosques. But this has nothing to do with the Government of Saudi Arabia.” The Police confirmed this further. “We have found that Muslim militants and their sect receive large donations of money from West Asian countries. They even give scholarships to Muslims to study religion in their countries,” I.G.W.R. Kandewatte, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kattankudy) said. With the Tiger guerrillas militarily defeated, security authorities in the east now want the one time Home Guards and others who inherited their weapons to surrender them.’

The Jihadis were once allies of the Govt, both fighting the LTTE. Did any of them recieve Govt protection? How long did it continue? Could they have used official protection to conceal their subsequent activities? It’s very obvious the perps were well known to the Govt and security forces.
