  1. Labour MP Kiri Allan’s brother is charged with murdering a woman whose body lay undiscovered for days.

On Thursday, Allan gave a press conference where she said it was an “extremely trying time”.

Allan said the victim’s family and hers were well-known to each other.

I would really like to have the names of people accused not made public unless they are found guilty in court.

I won’t start on televised trials.

I don’t think that there’s any good reason to show trials on the news, either.

Imagine the horror of being falsely accused and not only having your name and photo published but the trial televised !

Being falsely accused of even a minor thing is awful enough, the horror of being wrongly accused of a crime must be appalling.

My husband was accused of (but not charged with) fraud, taking pay from two sources. I remember the panic of trying to find something that would prove that he hadn’t and the relief of finally finding the relevant thing which, of course, was the only one not in the proper place. It was a clerical error and not his fault at all (long dull story) but I will never forget how awful it was.

If it’s so frightening to be on the receiving end of something like that, the hideousness of being accused and charged with a serious crime is all but unimaginable.

I just watched a news item on ‘Democracy Now !’ (Indep USA news):
    https://www.democracynow.org/

a pulitzer prize winner- journo (D C Johnston).. states that MrT’s financial records, show he lost over $1billion in real estate business, over a decade.. so much for being the ‘greatest business man ever’. In fact he claims he is amongst the WORST & also claims he had close connections with a convicted Cocaine dealer !

… oh dear…. BUT some folks actually think he is ‘a great guy’ :/ 😦

No one’s told him that self-praise is no recommendation. it would seem.

Selfconfidence is good, conceit is a turn-off.

I am vegetarian and find the idea of eating meat utterly revolting, but there is nothing more annoying than having someone like James Cameron (Linda McCartney did it, too) swanning in and telling NZ how to run its farming industry.

I would love to have no more animals killed for food, but even I know that you can’t change a farm from one thing to another as easily as they seem to imagine.

The new Windsor is to be called Archie Harrison, forsooth. Archie is a diminutive, it’s like calling someone Johnny or Freddie. The new Duchess is being adulated for still having a bump, as if this was a great achievement or some kind of statement about women’s bodies.
