Silver Ferns win Netball World Cup

Defying form over the last couple of years, and also seedings and predictions, New Zealand’s Silver ferns have won the 2019 Netball World Cup, beating Australia in the final in Liverpool by just one goal.

I even felt a bit emotional watching the final minutes, seeing the reactions to the result, and then the presentations and the national anthem.

Coach Noelene Taurua and everyone else involved in the campaign deserve a lot of credit too.

I’m not a great netball fan, but this is a great effort and a great result.

We could have enjoyed this moment much sooner if NBNZ hadn’t been so biased with regards to picking Noelene Taurua as head coach. I know nothing about netball, other than on the whole it’s played by good looking shelia’s. But it was obvious by the body language, the previous coach did not have the respect of the players. They respect Taurua because Taurua expects their loyalty.

The question is ” will Taurua hang around?”

Will Corky learn to spell sheila and not to use greengrocers’ apostrophes ?

‘Sheila’ is a discourteous word to use of a woman, as well as being a dated one. I suspect that the Silver Ferns would not see it as a compliment to be referred to as ‘good-looking sheilas’ by a much older man.

I wonder if Jenny-May Clarkson has apologised to Katrina Rore for her comments about Rore having no pride in the Silver Fern’s culture? It’s an old story in sports…hero to zero to hero in the eyes of the public. That scenario also applies to life. People are fickle with their support.
