Impeachment ‘trial’ a political farce

The impeachment trial of President Donald Trump reached the US senate last week, Wrangling over the rules of the trial have just begun (Tuesday in the US).

It’s impossible to avoid politics with the President the focus of attention, and theoretically his position as leader of the country is at stake.

But many politicians have made it clear where they stand (for or against Trump’s impeachment along party lines.

Politicians are deciding how the trial will be conducted, and can vote on this. Really.

Politicians will decide on the actual impeachment by vote.

Trial by politician sounds farcical, and this so far this trial looks like a farce. Predictions are that political allies who hold the balance of power in the Senate will find trump not guilty – that is, if the trial even gets to a vote on that – so the result seems to be a foregone conclusion.

Does Trump deserve to be impeached? Some made up their minds before this process started and won’t change their views regardless of what evidence is presented, or is absent.

I don’t know (and don’t really care). Perhaps that’s  result of USA: the “flood the zone with shit” media strategy, but I think that the US political system was already badly dysfunctional, and this is just a further step in a dire direction.

At least we are a long way away from it here, geographically and democratically. We grump about Tweedledum and Tweedledee parties, but at least we don’t have the Mad Hatter versus the March Hare.

There are statements that this is a ‘Lefty witch hunt’ & that MrT has done nothing wrong etc.
BUT the articles of impeachment, have been served & by the Rep.-led senate making noises, that they will not allow witnesses or evidence to be presented; it looks like, either they are trying to stymie the process OR are just trying to cover ‘something’ up !?

Once again hearing.. the Smug/arrogant Right-wing mantra: ‘We know best’ & they think MrT/they IS above the law.. :/ 😦

The US law continually interferes with politics, Z. Have you been asleep? This impeachment is just a continuation of the political civil war that has been going on since Trump was elected and is a straight power struggle.

Now it is just House Democrats vs Senate Republicans in a war of words where everyone knows what the real outcome will be.

        • Come come Zedd, Alan’s only concern is WHO said what, not WHAT has been said. It’s all identity politics with him.

Meanwhile Trump and McConnell continue to refuse to introduce any witnesses or other evidence that might exonerate Trump… despite his so-called “perfect call” (the call in which Trump never once talked about corruption but raised Biden 5 times).

meanwhile MrT is at Davos ‘World economic Forum’ telling everyone how great things are & that under Him/C-C denier-in-Chief.. that the air & water is cleaner than ever..

His usual over-stated drivel: ‘AMAZING, FANTASTIC, TREMENDOUS, SPECTACULAR… BEST EVER etc. etc. etc. !!!

… BUT you cant fool all the people ALL the time… 😦

You’re a harsh judge Z. Couldn’t you just rejoice and delight in the supreme comment made at Davos?

      🥰”I love the environment.”🥰

The only pause I had was that it wasn’t followed by, “No-one loves the environment as much as me.” Maybe it was said but the gagging had me distracted. 🙃

BUT I get concerned, when I hear B-Sers like MrT say ‘The best way to solve it.. is to throw money at it..’ (paraphrased) meanwhile throwing 10x more at fossil fuel searches 🙂

Oh yes.. Ive run off the track again.. “IMPEACH the Prez !” 😀

I hate to have to say it, but coal can be clean. It needs to be pulverised before it’s burned and then it doesn’t make smoke. I loathe ordinary coal fires, but even I have to admit that it can be used in a clean way.

watching Al_Jz.. the commentators are saying (paraphrased) ‘this is turning into the start of Election 2020, USA)

A Rep. commentator said: ‘Trump has done no wrong & ‘they’ (Dems) know it” then added that his support is high & the economy is booming etc.

    This was followed by a rebuttal from a Dem. who said “whilst it is true, that the economy is ‘booming’, it is all at the top end (millionaires/billionaires);
real WAGES (the workers) are down & home ownership (amongst middle-working class) is actually at an all-time low, since 1970s !

Some folks (right) need to actually look at the REAL facts & stop just looking for ‘the facts;’ that support their fantastical ideas :/

  4. A cover-up in plain sight. At Davos, Trump boasts that he is withholding evidence.

For Trump and his enablers, this trial is not about the truth; it never has been. It is about dominance and power.

    • Given that one of the charges is obstruction, this is as brazenly corrupt and cynical as it gets.

Do you think this is not about dominance and power for Democrats? Laughable.

    • This is as laughable as Trump publicly asking the Russians to find Clinton’s missing emails. Trump is a master troll, and a master at keeping himself in the media spotlight. While Democrats go after him (like episodes of Road Runner), Trump carries on. I’d say he’s winning.
