Now Biden versus Sanders

Joe Biden did unexpectedly well in Super Tuesday, in part due to competing moderate candidates Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar pulling out last week and endorsing Biden.

So Super Tuesday was largely Biden versus Bernie Sanders, with Michael Bloomberg trying to get a foothold. But Bloomberg didn’t fire and has now pulled out, also endorsing Biden.

The Hill: Bloomberg drops out after terrible Super Tuesday, endorses Biden

Elizabeth Warren is still in, but lagging badly ‘assessing the path forward’.

So now it is down to a head to head between Biden and Sanders.

Biden (77), Sanders (78)

All I’ll say is I’m glad I don’t have to choose between the two, nor between either and Donald Trump, and not because they are all in their seventies.

    Anyone but trump.

    • At the same stage last election there were a lot of doubts that Trump could win.

This time there are a lot of doubts that anyone will beat Trump, and that is primarily got nothing to do with Trump’s abilities, but the dearth of decent opponents.

Biden is borderline senile, forgets where he is, what he is talking about, is quite aggressive with the public, gets events and times mixed up..its almost sad.
Yesterday he confused his wife for his sister, called Super Tuesday Super Thursday, got lost with the second line of the declaration of independence, claimed he was arrested in South Africa, asked to be voted into the senate. His victory speech was largely an incoherent rambling collection of rehearsed talking points where individual words were mashed into one one long word.
Its either him or a communist who recently had a heart attack now that the billionaire republican has blown 500 million to be abjectly humiliated. The native American came 3rd in her own state so will just have to get back to her regular day job of lying her arse off.
I hope Biden gets the nod as his only campaign message is he is a mate of Obama,s and the orange man is bad, Bloomberg will fund him and the Bernie bro,s will just stay home or vote for Trump like some of them did last time.

Sounds quite a bit better than Trump, but that doesn’t mean much, does it.

Trump isnt noticeably in decline mentally he is exactly the same as always, good or bad I make no judgement.
Biden just doesn’t look capable mentally to take on the presidency. Nice guy but we all no that 80 year old who isnt quite as sharp as they used to be and looks more suited to pope and slippers and a quiet retirement.

Isnt that the same line you and others used to peddle about ‘sick Hilary’

            • So you ignore Trump’s obvious mental problems, but dump on Biden for his.

Sounds like two flaws bad, four flaws good.

            • Gee Pete, if Trump so obviously has mental problems, why can’t they beat him? Maybe his “mental problem” is that he plays to win, I guess this could be seen as a mental problem for those who don’t know how to.

            • Trump is in significant decline mentally. Just watch the video in this tweet from December last year – full screen, sound on.

“And let me begin by wishing you a beauti-fuel-a-look you remember this, do you remember they were trying to take Christmas out…”

The stumble doesn’t just interrupt the sentence but changes the subject. In the same moment the words fail, his shoulders jerk up, his eyes screw shut, his head twitches and his arms spasm into an “accordion” gesture.

If you stop mid-spasm and examine frame by frame you’ll see a momentary expression of agony on his face, as his brain malfunctions and his body knows something is very wrong.

Then he goes right on as if nothing happened—completely unaware that anything did.

Frankly, I’m starting to think that Trump’s compulsive lying is more symptomatic of frontotemporal dementia than innate duplicity. FTD would also explain the slurring, word choice, fragmented expression, emotional response, lack of filter, issues with balance and gait, the involuntary arm jerking, and his abyssmal concentration.

The voters Maureen the voters, will ensure Trump is defeated.
Only a few % change in the voters ( remember he only won by 75,000 votes in 4 states to win the electoral college as we know he lost the popular vote big time)

The main reason some candidates are dropping out this week is 15% rule. Generally thats the cutoff point for getting delegates in each state primary. It works like our MMP with 5% cutoff., if you come just under it means your votes are wasted, effectively going to the other candidates.
If you dont have a big swag of delegates come Convention time it still gives you bargaining power with the main contenders, having none means nothing.

Bootedgeedge had no path to victory and just sold out to Biden who is now comparing him to his son, I guess there are similarities with Hunter and selling favours for his office.

Its not illegal to endorse your opponent as a presidential candidate. Trump has endorsed a lot of candidates who suck up to him. Sessions got to be AG because he was first senator to support Trump.
Bootys career is far from over , well will see a lot more of him in future. hes a total political careerist, early on was driving vans for VIP passengers in Al Gores campaign.
The real gain for Biden is access to Bootys donor lists, same goes for other candidates who folded. These are public information anyway but the contact details are very useful

Turns out he didnt collude with the Russians, hasnt cratered the economy, hasnt dragged the US into more wars, has wiped out some pretty nasty terrorists so all the Democrats have is “orange man bad” which is why the only candidates to stand are absolutely awful and its a toss up between a failed communist and an old guy who should be in a retirement village.

The voters decide in the primaries….
In 2008 Obama only had a 40,000 vote lead ahead of Clinton when the primaries were finished, the Super delegates went heavily for Obama.
And No Sanders cant win, he lost heavily to Clinton remember ( by 4 mill votes). Hes never been a part of the Democratic party and you expect them to offer the nomination on a plate.

Turns out the Bern was looking like sinking the Congress and losing more senate seats and the Dems should have stopped him 3 years ago instead of letting him run this far and having to shaft him. All it took was a couple of days of the media actually asking him some questions after him holding these beliefs for 27 years as a senator for the establishment to freak.
His Bernie Bros wont turn out for Biden who is now being financed by Bloomberg thats for damn sure.

Whats this ‘stopped him 3 years ago ‘? hes not part of the democratic party system and could run for President like any other person . Bloomberg was another person who just ‘turned up ,but with huge $$$ campaign fund.’
You could run for President as long as you put your name down in enough states primaries. No one can stop you
Something like 30 names on this list
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Democratic_Party_presidential_candidates
and then there is the real nobodies
“There are over 250 who have filed with the FEC declaring that they are candidates, however, very few have actually made the effort to get their names on the ballot anywhere”

You should understand a lot more about the US primary system. Even the democratic primary voters arent party members why pay dues or anything, they just register for free as part of the enrollment . A few states dont even have party registration.

The DNC make the rules Duker, I do understand the system but they could have quite easily changed it after Bernie almost ruined Hilary,s anointment and bloodied her in the process.
Because Bernie ran her ragged in the primary she had little left for the actual election and had well documented health issues and a lacklustre campaign. Imagine what Biden, who has deteriorated noticebly in the last 2 months, is going to look like after after Bernie has exhausted him.
The candidates have blown a billion dollars to get to two old men who have been in politics all their lives one with a heart condition and one with early dementia.

Can’t see the Democrats taking the Presidency with either Sanders or Biden. Sanders will be freaking out the liberal conservative Democrat voters who’ll hugely outnumber the number of mainly young urban liberals likely to vote for Bernie, & Biden has nothing to offer but the claim that Trump’s the worst US President in history & a worryingly frequent lack of grip on reality, memory, facts, & time, place & location. I can’t detect much in the way of a clear, unified set of policy proposals & vision with any of their candidates.

Trump just by being his usual loathesome, narcissistic, jingoistic, lying self will probably obliterate them. It’s unbelievable that all the Democrats could come up with was these two geriatrics, one of whom isn’t even a Democrat.

The constituencies that Biden has had his greatest turn out with have been African Americans, suburbanites, working-class and older voters. They’re the same constituencies that Pelosi marshalled to retake the House in 2018.

But he’s also seen off Sanders, because Sanders has no convincing path to defeating Biden’s coalition with young people or previous nonvoters.

The media will hate it because they wanted Sparks to fly with Trump v Sanders, so expect a lot of concern trolling from normally Democrat friendly media , especially NY times and usual talking heads
