Open Forum – Sunday 5 April

This post is open to anyone to comment on any topic that isn’t spam, illegal or offensive. All Your NZ posts are open but this one is for you to raise topics that interest you, or you think may interest others..

If providing opinions on or summaries of other information also provide a link to that information. Bloggers are welcome to summarise and link to their posts. Comments worth more exposure may be repeated as posts. Comments from other forums can be repeated here, cut and paste is fine.

Your NZ is a mostly political and social issues blog but not limited to that, and views from anywhere on the political spectrum are welcome. Some ground rules:

  • If possible support arguments, news, points or opinions with links to sources and facts.
  • Please don’t post anything illegal, potentially defamatory or abusive.

FIRST TIME COMMENTERS: Due to abuse by a few, first comments under any ID will park in moderation until released (as soon as possible but it can sometimes take a while).

Sometimes comments will go into moderation or spam automatically due to mistyped ID, too many links (>4), or trigger text or other at risk criteria. If they pass muster they will be released as soon as possible (it can sometimes take hours).

One really good and healthy thing about a Universal Basic Income, or just Universal Income or Social Dividend – whatever it comes to be known – is you can’t have a worker OR beneficiary differentiation. It would defeat the objective of it and make the name “Universal Income” into a “ethical nullity” …

The EITHER/ORs shall merge and disappear …

So many good things shall come of this.

There’s no quality without quantity. You have covered the quality part…but where’s the quantity coming from in a post virus world? That question is predicated on there still being a global economy of some sort.

Oh yes, I forgot about “Kiwi ingenuity” and “innovation” and “risk taking”, our entrepreneurial spirit and all the rest …… our ability to adapt our economy quickly … the versatility of our workforce … I forgot they were dead!

[Deleted – inappropriate] stunned them and Ruthanasia put them out of their misery … which is lucky for them, because between those two *traitors to humanity* and with the collusion of the globe-cronies*, Robber Barons all, they’ve created a ‘Misery-Industrial Complex’ through carefully concealed unforeseen consequences.

The very consequences their fathers, *uncles* and grandfathers had somehow foreseen quite clearly in their careful fashioning of ‘Social Security’ … (such a terrible aspiration! Imagine wanting “Social Security”? What’s that? You can now. Okay) …

Never mind. For some it takes a few goes to get the message through such incredibly thick walls of greed and their amassed psychological defenses …

ComradeCovid#19 of Earth-Energy-Collective will do it though, along with former arch-nemisis Captain Corona (The Viral One) of SpaceForce – currently working on the other side with the “baddies” …

I think I asked fair questions, Parti. If capitalism is presently receiving its last rites, what will follow? Tell us about the collective that will follow, given the only examples I have seen has the leadership practising capitalism…while the good guys starve.

I admit to being a little thick. So I will need a solid explanation to penetrate my well fed hide. And, as for my money and properties. Well, I have a leaden strategy in place
should the comrades come a knockin.

President Xi point scoring against President Trump:

“New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that China is facilitating the shipment of 1000 ventilators to his state, as he continues to shop for more of the lifesaving devices ahead of a growing number of coronavirus patients who are expected to need them.

“This is a big deal and it’s going to make a significant difference for us,” Cuomo said, adding that the state of Oregon volunteered to send 140 ventilators to New York. Cuomo has also is also looking for ventilators closer to home, and has issued an order that forces even private hospitals in the state to redistribute ventilators to the hospitals most in need.”

    • Officially there are about 8,000 serious or critical cases in the US, about half of those in New York. The drive to get a lot more ventilators shows they anticipate or fear a much bigger casualty rate to come.

Whether it’s Lt Col Vindman, Captain Crozier, or Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson, Trump fires people who tell the truth.

The US has the most ventilators per capita in the world. China has a tiny fraction of the number and it’s health care system is not on the same planet.. China sending ventilators to the US is a repeat of the 50’s when China was a major food exporter to the Eastern Block while their own people ate each other from desperation.

I heard a sound behind me in the street, stopped and turned…two men were there with paint. One shouted something about distance, as if he thought I was going to bother to go up to him. But apart from a rather abrupt staff member in The Warehouse who told me to get back when I accidentally stepped over the very thin line, I haven’t encountered any other aggro.

With respect Chuck, they’ll read your opening salutation then bin the letter. Whatever we may think of her, Jacinda Ardern is the Prime Minister and your letter would have stood a better chance of being read had it begun Dear Prime Minister…

  5. I’ve just watched an interview with Simon Bridges on Q+A. This was by far the best performance I have seen from him, reasonable and making pertinent points. He supported a lot of what the Government is doing, but still raised appropriate questions about things like testing and quarantining of inbound travelers.

When the details are online I will put up a post.
