The total number of recorded Covid-19 cases worldwide has just ticked over the 2 million mark.
- Total cases: 2,000,734
- Total deaths: 126,775
- Total recovered: 484,781
- Active cases: 1,389,177
- Serious/critical: 51,603
That’s at 7:20 am Wednesday GMT so most countries haven’t updated for the day.
There are likely to be many more undetected or uncounted cases around the world.
Australia and new Zealand with today’s updated totals:
Note that both Australia and New Zealand have more recovered cases than active cases, which contrasts with the world ratio of 3 times as many active cases than recovered cases.
The USA in particular has a bad recovered ratio 549,362 active to 38,320 recovered.

/ 15th April 2020Sweden had a catch up after low Easter increases jumping back up to 114 deaths yesterday.
Belgium at 359 is second behind Spain at 390 in deaths per million (Italy is 348), but the US is much lower at 79 per million, even though they have the most deaths of any country (with a record 2,407 yesterday).

/ 16th April 2020And Sweden with 170 more deaths today (Wednesday their time), their biggest rise by far. Probably in part still a catch up from Easter.
Call me Ishmael...
/ 16th April 2020Sweden is in an unusual position in that 50% of its households are single person and the country has a low population density of about 25 people per square kilometre, so social distancing is already part and parcel of Swedish society.
But it also has a death toll of 1,203 people from Covid-19 on Wednesday, a rate of 118 per million inhabitants, compared with 55 in Denmark and just 13 in Finland, both of which imposed strict early lockdowns to curb the virus’s spread. It’s also had a large spread of contagion in care homes for the elderly, something you have not seen in the other Nordic countries.
And the country isn’t expected to do any better economically than other countries that went herd on early lock-downs. Magdalena Andersson, the Swedish finance minister, said earlier this week that GDP could shrink by 10% this year and unemployment rise to 13.5%.

The UK is expecting a 35% hit to GDP, almost entirely due to the lockdown. That will be largest economic slump in the UK for 300 years.

/ 15th April 2020This is interesting
“New York City, already a world epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, sharply increased its death toll by more than 3,700 victims on Tuesday, after officials said they were now including people who had never tested positive for the virus but were presumed to have died of it….”
I bet a lot of other countries aren’t doing that…makes comparisons essentially meaningless.
I think NZ would call them ‘probables’…. And we are ahead of the curve ..again

/ 16th April 2020Whats your point Pink Dave?
That pneumonia cases are dropping because they are being misreported as Covid 19?
That is idiotic rubbish unsupportable from your graph .
The first death in the USA from Covid19 was week 9 the 1st of march when that graph ends in week 11 March 14, they only had 57 deaths from Covid 19 .
Guess what?
Cause and effect .
The rate of pneumonia cases started dropping long before the USA even had a single death registered from Covid 19. .Because hand washing an other measures taken to limit the spread of Covid decrease the rate of all infectious illnesses.
What you need to look at is total deaths from all causes which do show a rapid rise as the deaths from Covid increase.
And no as many have already fallen for another dumb mistake.
Using numbers that are not accurate because of bureaucratic delays does not prove your case either.

Do try linking to the source not just the graphs as I can then point out many more failures of the twits you are following .

The numbers are directly from ONS, very simply presented for you to understand/.
There will be reckoning.
