Only small changes today with 9 new cases, no more deaths, and 4 fewer people in hospital.
Today’s update of Covid-19 data for New Zealand will likely have been available to Cabinet when they began considering whether to lower the Alert level on Thursday or not. It may make a bit of difference in their deliberations, but will be fresh on the public’s mind when the announcement is made at 4 this afternoon.
Total | Change in last 24 hours | |
---|---|---|
Number of confirmed cases in New Zealand | 1,105 | 7 |
Number of probable cases | 335 | 2 |
Number of confirmed and probable cases | 1,440 | 9 |
Number of cases currently in hospital | 14 | -4 |
Number of recovered cases | 974 | 62 |
Number of deaths (as at 1 pm 19 April) | 12 | 0 |
So that looks good, with only 9 new cases, no more deaths and fewer people in hospital, and the number recovered keeps increasing, currently about two thirds of the total number of cases.
That suggests the lockdown that started on 22 March and went to Level 4 on 26 March is working well in containing the virus.

/ 20th April 2020There seems little reason why we wouldnt ease to a still very restrictive level 3 but the governments proxies hitting the news with suggesting we need another couple of weeks is a worry..I hope we arnt being softened up. As Hosking points out Ardern is quite indecisive.
Its not as if we can do much on level 3 aside from more can go back to work, you cant go for a coffee, beer, dance, trip, dinner party, BBQ.

/ 20th April 2020Hosking accusing Ardern of being indecisive…..classic…
as for you can’t do much on L3…why the angst then.
Hosking has your problem, his wife wants to go to the hairdressers.

/ 20th April 2020500,000 hard working Kiwis can go back to work on level 3, that is half a million jobs that can re start and hopefully be saved long term. I think its fairly obvious its not back to normal but a reasonable step given what good little people we have been.

They said last week Monday would be needed to collate the testing data and getting the tracking right
And so it came to pass.
