State of National Emergency extended again

Separate to but associated with the Covid-19 Alert levels, the National State of Emergency has been extended for another week. It gives the State extra powers deemed necessary to deal with the pandemic.

“The powers activated by the State of National Emergency enable critical work to be carried out during this time including managing roads, traffic and public places; providing first aid, food, shelter and accommodation.

“Use of these powers has included authorising local councils to restrict vehicle access to roads or streets to support social distancing, directing freedom campers to relocate, requisitioning a carpark for COVID-19 testing, stopping people from lighting outdoor fires to reduce the risk of fire related emergencies, and allowing necessary maintenance to happen at a waste water treatment plant.”

State of National Emergency extended

The State of National Emergency to support the COVID-19 response will be extended a fifth time, for a further seven days.

The initial declaration was made on March 25, and the seven-day declaration can be extended as many times as necessary. It does not change the COVID-19 Alert Level.

“On the advice of the Director of Civil Defence Emergency Management and after consultation with the Prime Minister, I consider the State of National Emergency should remain in place to support the COVID-19 response,” Minister of Civil Defence Peeni Henare said.

“It is important that we continue to have the powers and support enabled by the State of National Emergency available as we transition to Alert Level 3 to help maintain the level of success we have seen to date in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

“The powers activated by the State of National Emergency enable critical work to be carried out during this time including managing roads, traffic and public places; providing first aid, food, shelter and accommodation.

“Use of these powers has included authorising local councils to restrict vehicle access to roads or streets to support social distancing, directing freedom campers to relocate, requisitioning a carpark for COVID-19 testing, stopping people from lighting outdoor fires to reduce the risk of fire related emergencies, and allowing necessary maintenance to happen at a waste water treatment plant.

“Since we went into lockdown most New Zealanders have done the right thing by following the rules and staying home. Getting this far has required a collective effort and we should be enormously proud of what we have achieved.

“So we do not lose the gains we have made, it is vital that everyone complies with all Alert Level 3 restrictions to support all New Zealanders to stay strong and help finish what we started – kia kaha Aotearoa,” Peeni Henare said.

The State of National Emergency and the COVID-19 Alert Levels are two distinct and separate things. The Alert Levels specify the range of measures that we are taking against COVID-19.

A State of National Emergency provides the people managing the response in an emergency, in this case COVID-19, access to powers they would not normally have, but might require now to implement and enforce these measures.

      I got this one from a contact. I haven’t really looked into it. I don’t know it’s efficacy..or even if it’s a scam.

If it was on a Bayer website, what would you suspect?

        • It isn’t, so it’s a pointless question.

No, it’s not. It’s a very telling question that anyone knowing their bussiness onions would have no problem answering. However, for the ignorant, it opens them up to attack. Therefore you did the right thing closing me down.

            • ??? Closed you down ?

It is a pointless question. Bayers is highly unlikely to risk their reputation (and expensive lawsuits in the US) by promoting an unproved product and making these claims about it. They make things like aspirin whose use is known. To the best of my knowledge they don’t run treatment centres. If they did and advertised antibody tests, I would be very surprised.

            • Bayers say that ‘Resochin’ (?) may help Coronavirus. May help. not will cure. They don’t make categoric claims. No pharmaceutical company with any sense would when it came to something like that until it’s well and truly proved.

Dropped the “Bentley” off at my usual garage to have its post-March-service & WoF oil leak fixed. A nippy but gorgeous looking morning. Enjoyed the walk back home.

Perhaps you should have your dictionary checked too…its been leaking misinformation

“Elimination is the process of getting rid of something, whether it’s waste, errors, or the competition. Elimination comes from the Latin word limen, which means threshold.

Why not just pop out down to your local gang HQ & ask if they’d like to be elminated?
Report back on how you got on when you have the use of your hands & legs again?

Walked back & picked the car up at the garage. No charge. The leak appeared to be coming from the sump plug area, although the pkug was tight. (Sure was, I made it tighter, to see if that stopped the leak – to no avail). Diagnosis was that the new sump plug washer fitted at its last service had failed. They fitted a new one & suggested I check overcthe next couple of days, just to make sure that’s fixed the problem.

On the way up there I walked past my favourite Fish n Chip n Chinese Food shop & the door was open, blocked by a table, with a limited menu on it. The young husband & wife were in the kitchen area, working. I called out & asked if they would still be doing their yummy $10 smorgasbords or could they make one up if ordered?

The came out, smiling, & said unfortunately, no. They would probably have to wait until level one for that.

Whatever one might think of the wisdom or otherwise of Jacinda’s flunkies implementing a lockdown, I will say again, you can’t fault whoever organised the masses of printed communications & introduced the concepts of levels & bubbles into the comms in general. Everybody uses these terms easily & with a good understanding of their general & even specific meanings. 👍🏼

Another little point of interest for me. I stopped off to get some fresh milk at one the two dairies I occasionally frequent & the Indian owner said to me:

“I’ve changed my mind Gez. I think I’m going to vote for Jacinda !” 😮

He’s usually a National voter, but he’s been balking since the last election at the prospect of voting for Bridges, who he doesn’t rate.

Another customer turned up & had to be shooed out until I left (they’re all sticking to the one customer in at a time diktat), & we didn’t want to hold that guy up by chattering (like our self-identified meerkat here); but he said it’s because he thinks she’s strong.

          No chickens, sorry. Wrong again.
I’ve told you not to make assumptions about me; they’re always wrong.

The essence of the story is correct… like Hollywood, characters can be merged or changed to improve the box office

Again, you are incorrect. I was already useful before the pooks even attracted my interest. I do not change. You would not understand. I have a complex personality; I have had to learn to understand it. I see things from many different perspectives. That has proven to be both a challenge and an advantage, depending on circusmstances, in my personal & working life.

You cannot understand it. You appear to have only one perspective, your own, & you see & interpret everyone’s words, actions, motives, & thinking ONLY according to what YOU would be thinking & feeling.

I don’t have the need to put other posters down to feed my starved ego that you do. I am mostly content with who I am & what I have.

  3. I wonder how many people will assume that this means an extension of the lockdown !

      • No, dear, if I thought that I wouldn’t have said that people would assume it. I would have said that it DID mean that.

Is that easy enough for you to understand, dear ?

        Mitherers is not a word.
