Same old news, Covid numbers unchanged for 15 days

New Zealan’d’s Covid-19 numbers haveb’t changed again today, that’s 15 days in  row there have been no new cases and there is still just one active case but not serious enough to require being in hospital.

As at 9.00 am, 6 June 2020
Total Change in last 24 hours
Number of confirmed cases in New Zealand 1,154 0
Number of probable cases 350 0
Number of confirmed and probable cases 1,504 0
Number of recovered cases 1,481 0
Number of deaths 22 0
Number of active cases 1 0
Number of cases currently in hospital 0 0

Some media (RNZ, Stuff, NZ Herald), are reporting this is breaking news again, which is pathetic misuse of the term that makes it meaningless.

It’s not as if there’s a surprise that the daily numbers will be released at 1 pm, that’s what has been happening for months.

The only things that have increased are the number of negative tests, and the pressure on Government to relax restrictions on businesses and large gatherings (sports are wanting to get back into action in front of crowds).

If there is little or no change through to Monday then Cabinet will have to announce a move to level 1 on Wednesday. Jacinda Ardern was under pressure through this week (and showing it) for not having done it sooner.

  1. I’ll freely admit that I would be annoyed if they didn’t announce a move to L1 next week… But people seemed to forget that as things got more relaxed during L2, we were progressively increasing risk of transmission… So we did need some time to ensure that more people together didn’t trigger new cases.

    • We weren’t, because there was no community transmission and people can’t pass on a disease that they don’t have.

Meanwhile the economy is in an appalling state thanks to the PM’s acting on instinct and ignoring science and evidence.
