There is still a problem with how the health information was available

While most of the focus is on Michelle Boag providing confidential health information to Hamish Walker, and Walker emailing that to media, there are still important questions to be asked about how Boag had access to the information in the first place in her role as Acting CEO of the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.

New Minister of Health Megan Woods says that it was a standard operational procedure to give emergency services this information in case they had to provide services to anyone with Covid. But this needs scrutiny. Anyone known to have Covid should be in quarantine and if emergency services are needed for them it should be immediately obvious.

I believe Woods is being elusive with the facts.
Hopefully our intrepid media will drill down and obtain a more credible response.

I wonder if Muller knew about the info before Walker released it.
Walker maybe just the fall guy.

      Why?

I think the National party will come out OK. More interestingly the chain of delivery, for the information, is now in the spot light.

Pop corn time. I predict there is more to this fudging by the lack of reaction from other parties.

The calculated imbecility of suggesting that because every member of the Greens, NZF, Act and the Labour Party aren’t in headlines tut tutting or firing off there’s something untoward going on with them and an implication that they are involved in associated unsavoury behaviour?

Rather than just shut up the slurs and attacks are going to be made on all and sundry. Defensive Trumpian tweets here we are.

              I am an avid reader.
Just today a billionaire paid me a visit in his mini, to drop some more books off for me.
He offered me some semi-colons as well, but I told him I never bother using them.

            • That doesn’t surprise me; you don’t seem too sure about capital letters and punctuation generally, never mind semi-colons.

Unless the billionaire was wearing a mini skirt, he would have been in a Mini.

What do you avidly read ?

Unlike Nash it seems. I doubt that Ardern or Woods or Hipkins will like Nash jumping into this. All Labour need to do is stay quiet and let National cop the flak, but Nash is lowering Labour to National’s level.

Boag is declining interviews and her explanation of how she obtained the information is not reassuring.
Muller being ‘in the know’ for 30 hours before acting poses other questions.

               /  8th July 2020

Yes . Why did Muller need to check with lawyers, he never knew at the time nor or was in receipt of the names
              Or was he…tick tick tick

Walker seems a strange choice to be a confident of Boag. Nikki Kaye in Auckland, yes , but a Southland MP

They haven’t posted it on their website but during one item on the matter on 1News at 6 the reporter showed a brief clip of Hamish Walker looking up to the public gallery & giving a “shout out” to Michelle Boag (for her advice or support) during his maiden speech.

Absolutely. Does it have to happen like that as an answer to the Gerritt type comment
“there is more to this fudging by the lack of reaction from other parties”? Or prevent it arising?

The situation is perfect for the media. Just about anyone’s going to say something which can be turned into great clickbait.

Where is Michael Woodhouse when you need him? In the last couple of weeks he has been front and centre.

On Saturday it was: “This is unconscionable and unacceptable that those suffering from the incredibly dangerous virus now have to suffer further with their private details being leaked.”

The coronavirus has undoubtedly reshaped the way we look at epidemics and pandemics. We now know that the general public knows as much as experts in all related public health fields.

Maybe the review of logistics and organisational aspects of handling for future situations will come up with rules and guidelines about all aspects. Who should know what, when is just one. ‘The public’ knows best so maybe in meetings up and down the country people can thrash out who needs what information. Tim the milkman’s going to need to know some stuff.
Cedric and Marion the undertakers are going to need to know some things. And Whira from Customs at the airport.
After all it will be their pandemic.
Or maybe we could have social media voting. That’d take sleazy politicians out of the loop and leave reporters to use their intrepidity elsewhere.

What I think is curious is that Boag didnt give the info to the party leadership rather she gave it to a junior. If it had gone to the leadership it could have been handled appropriately.
Boag should have known better it all looks rather self destructive.

“The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust says it did not breach the privacy of Covid-19 patients, despite National Party stalwart Michelle Boag claiming she received the now-leaked data as acting chief executive of the trust.

Helicopter Trust chairman Simon Tompkins, in statement issued Wednesday morning, said the trust had reviewed how it protects patient information and “that none of this patient information has been subject to any privacy breach”.

Boag on Tuesday evening said she received the information in her capacity as acting chief executive. She has resigned from the acting chief executive position and as a trustee of the helicopter trust.

‘“The breach which has been admitted by Ms Boag was of an email that was sent to her personal account. As an administrative resource, Ms Boag has never had access to any clinical or patient data held by [the trust].

“Any information we hold on patients is private with access on a restricted basis and has not been breached.”

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/122070095/auckland-rescue-helicopter-trust-says-michelle-boag-had-no-access-to-covid19-patient-data

Still considerable mileage to go in this saga.

The statement appears to contradict Boag’s claim that: “The information was made available to me in my position as then Acting CEO of the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, although it was sent to my private email address.”

Shes acting CEO , but has another full time job with her own PR business. She must have had a mole amoungst the medical staff of the Trust of which there are many who emailed her the info.
      Who could that be ?

More evidence others are involved from stuff story
“Walker said that “up to 11,000” people were “possibly heading for Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown from India, Pakistan and Korea”.
Housing Minister Megan Woods, who is in charge of managed isolation, said this statement was outrageous and racist. Currently only New Zealand citizens or permanent residents are allowed into the country at all. [ and the people might be in random isolation hotels]
Walker issued a public response defending the comments, saying he had information from a “source” that proved his claim. That source was not Boag.

His “source” only seems to be someone claiming a contact in the DHB.

          https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/morningreport/audio/2018753349/hamish-walker-denies-racism-after-quarantine-press-release

          Gezza / 3rd July 2020
He’s claiming they don’t have enuf PPE down there right now to safely manage isolation, & that his “source” says someone in the DHB has told him they’ve been advised that up to 11,000 kiwis will be coming from India, Pakistan & Korea – he says it’s not about race, it’s about risk – these are high risk countries – AND implies that these are where most of our current cases have come from. He says Megan Woods is refusing to identify where our current cases are coming from.

Suzy Fergusson notes that Megan Woods declined an interview today but said he is being racist & that she has no idea where he gets his figure of 11,000 from.

Her I say I got it on my personal email but as Chair of the Trust copout looks dubious.

On the plus side the most likely legal target of legal action up to now, the Trust has been exonerated.

Brash and other National party hacks playing of the lack of security around the docs and therefore all fault should be directed to Labour is laughable.

Couple of years ago I was incorrectly sent personal details of someone else and I immediately advised the sender and deleted them from my computer.

Must be different ethics at that level.

“Now the MP at the centre of the story has announced he will stand down at the September election, after his leader Todd Muller threatened to have the party deselect him.

This followed a Monday standoff where Walker argued that publicising his involvement would breach his privacy, Stuff understands.”
