Time for Judith Collins?

There is only one person I can see who would be capable of stepping up and taking over the National Party leadership – Judith Collins.

National is in real trouble with the struggles and now resignation of Todd Muller they quickly need to get someone else in charge.

Collins is very good handling media, and she has a lot of support in the party.

She just lacks major support in the National caucus. A lot of their recent problems have been factional – the aggrieved Bridges faction versus the new Muller faction.

Having a leader independent of both of these factions would be a plus for someone able to command respect and demand loyalty.

National MPs either have too accept and support someone like Collins as leader, or continue to self destruct.

There is some talk of the reappointment of Simon Bridges, but I think that would be a bad move. National support was sliding under his flawed leadership, and he lost the confidence of a majority of his caucus. Putting him back in charge would be nuts.

So I don’t see any option but Judith – if she is willing to give it a go.

The beauty of having Collins take over is backbone and fearlessness, this version of the National party is just way too relaxed and unfocused and someone needs to crack the whip and perhaps have a cleanout.
Collins would be such a big contrast to Ardern she is the only choice, the contrast between a huggy Ardern and a practical no nonsense Collins with her intellect and drive would give the voters a real choice.
I am tentatively excited after flirting with an Act or NZ First vote under Muller.

It’ll be a great day for you David. Up and down the country people will be quivering with anticipation and excitement as the jackbooted, leather clad Collins whips into the room.

They’ve been waiting sooo long for release.

A strong woman needn’t be described as jackbooted, abusive, or leather clad, whatever your own fantasies. A strong woman is just that.

She’s wanted to be Crusher and as David said, to crack the whip. She’d get rid of gangs, she’d be Laura Norder on steroids. The fantasy is not mine, it’s one I’ve borrowed from the fans who’ve extolled those virtues and wanted them for years.

Some women are bossy and abuse their position of power, as some men do. But it’s not a given thing that a woman in charge will be like that as a matter of course.

Calm down, Parti. Labour isn’t out for the count yet. I’m sure Jacinda is good for three more years of socialist mush. I just worry about how future generations will pay for the clean up. Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps sell the South Island to Australia?

Corky, Labour isn’t out for the count at all, or anywhere near it!

        National however … IS.

What’s ChiNational gonna do under Collins? Play DIRTIER!?

Well, actually, they are gonna try exactly that! Mark my words. They’ll go full-blown, nutbar, Alt-Far-Right Poopulist now … Collins a kind of Grizzly Thumptcher …

This is totally bizarre behaviour post-Covid-19, which has heightened ‘ordinary’ peoples’ ethical awareness enormously.

This ETHICAL CLEANSING, which is especially showing-up inside National, is a result of hitting bedrock – Self-Preservation – during ComradeCovid-19 and choosing the path of Love rather than Fear … “because only the command of Love permits of self-preservation by all” – Frank E Warner ‘Future of Man’ (London 1944)

“Hatred and struggle are no more serviceable as principles of Life than collision is as a principle in the journeys of the Stars” – ibid

In ghastly military analogy, playing DIRTIER is kinda like the enemy* flagrantly exposing themselves to be picked off at Will.

Thankfully this same ethical processing is happening inside of people too, if Todd Muller’s story is to be believed? Some politicians are identifying themselves as *NOTBAD* people … as not-the-enemy …

Collins will be Captain-on-Deck as the NZ National Party’s Shi* of Straite ‘Titanics’ slides below the frozen surface of Aotearoa New Zealand’s political HIS Tory.

Bridges is not ‘ruling out’ throwing his hat in the ring ?

Its a factional dust up for personal advantage…Bridges wants utu against the party cadres who usurped him…Kaye, Bishop , Willis…and their fellow travellors.
In practice Bridges wants to play the long game English did and saty near the top of the hierarchy
Kaye will want to do a Paula and keep her position, unless Paula pulls the seat from out under her for her own use.
Collins and Kaye is too Auckland Centric, because in spite of what the party says about not having Maori at the top , merit comes second to having the right provincial mix of leaders.
Key/English in spite of English being a faux Southlander and spent schooling and his adult life in Wellington, was a good example. Bolger had his city deputys….etc etc

Dumping Bridges for Muller means he is untenable, in the medium term at least as leader. How could National go to the electorate expecting them to have confidence in Bridges when some two months ago their caucus didn’t.

So the Muller coup and resignation has effectively taken out two leaders (and Paula Bennett) with one shot. Very incompetent for a party whose political brand should be competence, especially when cooler heads should have reflected:

    1. Ardern’s sky high popularity during lockdown was not due to an essential failing by Bridges, but rather…events. And the next two months look certain to bring a whole bunch of events that could change things dramatically.

    2. Anything that Michelle Boag thinks is good strategy, such as the Muller coup, is usually a disaster. Amy “I’m stepping down to spend time with my family…oh, no I’m not” Adams and Nikky Kaye are now in the same boat.

However, just as Labour got desperate In 2017 and threw a successful Hail Mary pass to Jacinda, so the possibility is there for Collins.

But are the National caucus prepared to do it?

Collins is like Little , seen as the great hope of the partys die hard supporters…but isnt

What will really be happening in caucus is intense jockeying for personal advantage between the factions to try to unite behind the scenes on a single name…all to give the tissue thin facade of unity ! Ha

A week is a long time in politics. Muller hit the ground stumbling, floundered briefly and broke up.

Surely National will pick experience over hopeful promise this time. Their last two picks have been incomprehensible to me. If they can’t do better they should have an electoral cleanout of those responsible.
