Ardern v Collins debate

The first leaders’ debate of the election is tonight on 1 News at 7.00 pm until 8:30 pm.

This puts Jacinda Ardern head to head against Judith Collins, Labour versus National.

We will have to wait and see what impact this will have on the election.

Judith hasnt moved the polling numbers , she is still where Muller was at 32%, well she was bottom of the barrel pick

Judith ahead in my books at the moment. The PM is all hands and head movements. Judith is still, and talking policy. John Campbell is a fugging disgrace. He opened the debate by prattling on in pidgin English. It’s a TV studio, John… not a fugging whare.

The one on one interviews are where you can get more involved as he’s doing.

Here’s John Keys promise of A second harbour crossing back in 2013….nothing happened for 5 years, now it’s trotted out again (like the tax cuts in 2008 which were cancelled after winning the election
This was raised in the debate when Collins tried her promise the earth ploy

Aucklands second Waitemata Harbour crossing as part of a $10 billion transport mega-plan will be a tunnel, Prime Minister John Key has confirmed.

Am impressed you know the Maori word for “house”, Corky. Watch out, it looks like the efforts of bi-culturalists are quietly seeping in and having a bigger effect on your chosen vocabulary than you realise! Next you’ll be using a Maori word like, oh, I don’t know, “Kiwi” to describe your nationality. 😳😂

”I’m impressed you know the Maori word for “house”, Corky.”

      I hope so.

”Watch out, it looks like the efforts of bi-culturalists are quietly seeping in and having a bigger effect on your chosen vocabulary than you realise! ”

Without a doubt. I say, if you want to speak Maori..speak Maori fluently. I don’t want a tokinistic word spread as a supposed nod to bi-iculturalism.

”Next you’ll be using a Maori word like, oh, I don’t know, “Kiwi” to describe your nationality. ”

I use the term New Zealander. Maori don’t want a bar of your bi-culturalism. If you think trying to meet Maori half-way in some wonder land of partnership, you will be seriously deluded.
      They want their country back..😏

    Cannot stand Campbell.
He dresses, looks like and talks like a funeral undertaker.
But, I believe he is to date adjudicating very fairly.
    Crusher is way in front.

Even the lefties on TV 1 agree with me !
Plus, Seymour has won hands down in Queenstown against Robertson.
      Hope springs eternal.

When was the last time a tv debate won a General Election? Reagan vs Carter in 1980 was a definite, Bill Clinton vs George H W Bush and Ross Perot in 1992 a maybe. In New Zealand? Maybe John Key besting Helen Clark in 2008, although she beat Bolger in 1996 but ended up in Opposition for another three years.

Not sure tv debates are the great decider as it was when Kennedy beat Nixon in 1960, or when Norman Kirk and Rob Muldoon made it happen with electrifying effect in 1972 and 1975 respectively. Indeed, like door knocking or speech making on the literal hustings, it’s time is likely done for all except seniors.

Talkback has already spoken – Jacinda was terminated. Mike was in a chipper mood this morning. He suggested people look at the finance debate where Dave Seymour destroyed the Left.

It will be interesting to see what Labour does to change Jacinda’s lackluster performance.

Talkback has also provided the word I was looking for to describe Campbell’s performance as moderator. BIASED would have been unfair. SIMPERING nails it.
